Well i guess it's time to say goodbye Galveston it was nice knowing ya!
This looks like it's gonna get a lot worse and thats saying something considering what what we are seeing with the initial storm surge so far. not to mention i find it surreal and chilling that the police are telling those that choose not to evacuate to write thier names and SS#'s on thier arms to help with the corpse identification process.

I don't think he was trying to be funny.

No attempt at humor in that, or am I missing something.

Funny? before Katrina the danger was well forcast and largely ignored. I find sad that many people choose the same option concerning this storm. IMHO Ike is gonna make Katrina look mild in comparison.
Like it or not this storm is happening. I had no hand in this and I find no humor in this but reality is what it is!!

Oh, come on.
Ike will be worse than Katrina..... I can not imagine 5million people without power.... I was out for 8 days for Gustav and it was miserable.
I bet Austin will be introduced to refugee's / evacuee's like we were from New Orleans.... God help them....

I don't think that's funny at all. Imagine if someone said that 3 years ago before Katrina hit New Orleans.
Very classless, you should really be ashamed.
Welcome to the internet.
Cliched yes, but it applies. You should see the joke pics I saw all over the place yesterday.

I came back here without reading anything, and I'm sorry I went overboard. I apologize. I don't even know why I got so worked up.
Sorry.

Iz ok Tal, I could have worded that better. Having family who live on the SE FLA. coast i have the National Hurricane Center on my favorites and have been watching Ike since he got his name off the western coast of Africa
Times like today bring to the forefront of my mind going through Wilma in 05. it's now just before 9:30 CDT, we will know for sure just how bad things are come tomorrow morning. Godspeed and goodluck folks!

I am seriously considering that as my retirement destination, having been born at the San Marcos AFB outside San Antonio. I drove through there in '71, and the canals (or river walk, whatever) were a real strong draw.
Hope everyone we know down there is safe, and comes through this with minimal disruption to their lives.
I'm thinking of moving to Austin.... Not quite yet but maybe in 10 years or so.... Seems like my kind of town...

There are alot of refuges here in Austin they shut the schools down early to open up the gyms for them.
The comment about the black marker to mark your name ssn ect was all over the radio today. It aparently made a few people change there mind amongst many other warnings to get the hell out.
17 foot sea wall 7 feet above sea level. houses on 20 foot sticks with 50 foot waves. Is just insane to remain. The island is already pretty much under water before it even rained a drop.
I just spent the week of the 15th on Crystal Beach on G I the pictures came out more beatiful than it was but the 30 blue crabs for 14 dollars and 6 pounds of gulf shimp 23 made some great boils and meals with the fish we caught, and just got a great hook up on the house rental. :(
