Well... look at where its built. I think they had to take it down anyway, and thought, "Hey... if we have to knock it down, what would be a funny way to do it?"
At the beginning of the video "Brian" points out the mic cable... which seems to be coming from the left. When the tower is knocked down, the cable seems to be coming from the right. Mabye it was stuck under the blocks... dunno. Also, toward the end theres one of those "LIVE" things on the top right of the screen. Dosen't it seem that if it was live on the news they would have their little overlay with the reporter's name and station insignia, ala:

?
Also, what reporter answers the phone in the middle of a "Live" broadcast?
I should hope someone that moronic would never make it to being a reporter.
But hey... it could be true.

In network television they rarely use XLR cables anymore, they'd use a wireless brick and a receiver. If they did use an XLR it'd be Green or Blue (chroma-key-able), not yellow.
The camera work is absolute shit, disregarding the rule of thirds most of the time and not very steady. For Live television they wouldn't have a run&gun setup either, but would be on sticks (tripod) connected to a Sat Truck. In other words, it wouldn't be handheld. There would also be lighting, which this setup obviously did not have. The b-roll of the tower would have been shot prior and overlayed through a number of edits in the truck.
The audio connectors for a network quality camera would be on the right side of the camera, and thus wouldn't have wrapped around the tower ... it'd have traveled down the right side to the reporter's foot.
A network trained reporter would hold the microphone in front of the subject's mouth, not off to the side.
The "live" is too crisp compared to the video, and obviously was added in post. There was also no station id or other header graphics. Also no network would have an animated live like that one.

You guys are all too used to network quality local stations. In the small town I grew up in, the local station would've probably killed for that crap level of quality (it was a travesty to watch).

Small town... with a computer guru working at the T.V. Station with nothing better to do than add "LIVE" to the feeds...

Hell, ours had that back in the other century when I lived there. Still looked like 70's TV though, and the reporters made that guy look like James Bond in comparison.
