So, I saw this last night. Can't help but have been disappointed. Albeit that Sean Connery missing set the film up for being worse than the third, and the lack of a little Asian kid yelling "Doctah Jones, Doctah Jones" was sad ...
1) Aliens. Seriously, what the hell. At least all of the other artifacts were somewhat based on human history and were fairly feasible. This seemed like kinda a cop out.
2) "He's your son". How often does this little plot twist have to show up in movies, especially when there's no surprise at all.
3) The George of the Jungle scene. Ok, so I can suspend some disbelief and give it to the kid that he knows how to handle a sword from his previous fencing classes. But swinging from tree to tree was a little much, no?
4) "I'm a double agent". Why did they not even question him? Going from him being an enemy to a friend to an enemy to a friend was a little much and not believable at all.
Ok, there were a few cool things. The scene in the warehouse where he swings and missed the truck was great, the motorcycle through the library was great, and the few throwbacks to the old films were good, but in general this was extremely disappointing and a sad end to the cannon of Indiana Jones.

I enjoyed it, for what it was.
I think you have to keep in mind that all three dealt with wildly supernatural topics.
The crystal skull stuff and alien influence over the Mayans is pretty out there, but based on existing legend. No crazier than the knight guarding the holy grail in 3 or the Ark of the Covenant sending crazy ghost/demons to kill everyone present when it was opened in 1.

not really a spoiler, but a comment on a spoiler.
actually the whole mayan/aztec alien theory has some factual basis if you look at some glyphs that can only be described as astronaut looking chractures

The other thing, that whole nuclear blast scene was probably harder to believe than the aliens, that was ridiculous and beyond

Bah, this was everything I was looking for in an Indiana Jones movie, and was about the better than I ever expected out of Lucas. (He's pretty much demonstrated he's a crappy writer ever since Return of the Jedi).
As long as IJ investigates things out of Steve Jackson's Illuminati game, I'll be happy.

LoL I played that card game 12 or so years ago.
And I too was disappointed by the ending of the movie(last 15 minutes or so), but everything before that was just about everything I expected going into an Indiana Jones movie.

Just saw the movie and I enjoyed it. Everything I kind of expected in a IJ movie, and as mentioned above I don't think it was anymore supernatural than the previous three.
In some ways the whole 1950s era + New Mexico setting kind of plays into the whole Roswell/UFO/gov.'t secrets stuff that floats around, not to mention the tinfoil hat beliefs that old civilizations were guided by aliens, etc. (*/shrug... who knows!)
The movie was exactly what I paid and expected to see in many ways. Anyone who complains b/c it was not "realistic" enough is not being realistic either. It is classic Hollywood fantasy after all!

I saw it and Narnia over the weekend. I enjoyed it and was amazed at how young they were able to make him look :p Good stuff and really if you think it's cheesy or unrealistic when is the last time you've watched an IJ movie? Go back and rewatch Temple of Doom now that one was cheezzzzzze.
The ants though, that part nearly freaked me out. My skin crawled thru the whole scene.

Saw it about 2 hours ago - deeply dissapointed.
It seemed very generic, very forced. For instance, the marriage at the end.
At the whole alien thing? A flying bloody saucer? There was just no point to it.

Just saw a commercial for the Lego Indiana Jones video game while watching BSG, and found myself wondering if it would be more interesting than the movie........
