I was surprised to see no thread on this movie... just saw it tonight after reading very positive reviews about the movie.

My Impression?

A-

Very good movie, great story (inspired by the comic I suppose), Robert Downey jr. is PERFECT for the role.

I recommend this movie! It is NOT a childrens movie.

I have to agree with Jedd on this one.

Robert Downey was spot on as was Jeff Bridges.

My 16 year old son came out of the movie thinking it was an awesome flick. Of course he doesn't have my 30ish years of Ironman reading history but I think he's converted.

I'm prolly going to pick up the subscription to Marvel online digital comics. If I can pick up the story lines after a 10 year near vacation from reading them that is lol.

Most of the cast signed on for 3 films, so expect 2 more :)

What is that? Comic books online? I've been buying graphic novels now and again but I'm definitely out of the comic book storyline loop.

Google Marvel comics online, they've digitized most of the comics they carry so you can keep up with the story lines without spending the cash for the paper copies.

10 bucks a month I think Kel...

Am I the only one who thinks Downey/Stark looks like Oracle CEO Larry Ellison?

I was very pleasantly surprised by this movie. I went in with low expectations but I have to admit that they did a good job with it. Downey played a great Tony Stark I thought and the special effects were just fantastic.

Looking forward to #2 in 2010.

I love when the post credits tidbit is actually rewarding... I didn't know there was going to be one on Ironman and it turned out to be a great one.

My only complaint was the last fight needed more beat-down.

I to have a complaint about that last fight. Obdiah really picked up fast how to use his suit without much show of a learning curve ;( Since he lacked a power supply till the very end where did he learn to be so adriot with the suit?

You know I was thinking the same thing about Obidiah, but I saw it coming. The bad guy ALWAYS knows how to use his weapons. No explanation needed. ; p

Can someone explain the Nick Fury bit? The guy I saw the flick with didn't want to stay, and I have no idea what that means. I never read the comics either, I'm afraid.

I really enjoyed the movie. Just fun enough to not take itself seriously, without being campy and dumb. Downey Jr. was great in the roll.

If you've never read the comics, it won't mean too much to you until 2009. Basically Nick Fury (played by Samuel L Jackson) is the leader of SHIELD, which is a branch of the government that works very closely hand in hand with the superhero team called the Avengers who Iron Man is a very integral member. The Avengers team up much like the X-Men to combat things solo superheroes can't do on their own, a "guild" of super heroes if you will.

I agree the movie was very well done and some of the action scenes seemed to have a lot of substance to them (e.g. the scenes in the Middle East).

Looking forward to the next one, as long as it keeps the style of the first (or better)!

Just seen it last night, must say i was suprised, I was expecting it to suck. And I didnt read this post yet until today, I like to see a movie first befor I read about it here.
Few things that I noticed about the movie:
1)That Airforce guy (forgot his name) voice reminded me of Mike Tyson *8haha everyone had a big laugh when someone in the theather said out loud ""USE YOUR MAN VOICE!!""
Chances are, that he may be War machine in the next coming movie.
The part in the movie when he was in Tony's lab and was standign infront of one of the suit models.. looked at it and said ""Maybe next time""
2)Back in the comic books, didnt Tony lose use of his legs due to the acident, which was one of the reason he made that suit,... or did that happen a little bit down the lines?
3) An tere is smething about SLJ playing as Nick Fury, that just downst seem right........

Originally, unless my memory is totally shot, he designed the suit due to either a lung or heart problem. The original Ironman suit was a big bulky yellow thing; a later design became the popular yellow and red suit we see now.

It pains me to recall how many of these Stan Lee comics I had the first few copies of until I went in the service, and most of my stuff was tossed in my absence.

Ok, I'll have to admit, this movie was pretty damned good. The animation wasn't overdone (A La Speed Racer), to me it looked like they tried to use real backgrounds as much as possible. The dialog wasn't cheesy, as I expected, and Robert Downy Jr was able to pull off Tony Stark's transformation from Arms Dealer to Superhero fairly well.

Jeff Bridges was a little transparent as Obadiah, but you have to have a "bad guy" for the hero to fight, I suppose.
Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper was a nice touch, and not overdone. She was attractive withoug being overly sexy.
Stan Lee was credited as himself at the end, but I thought he was portraying Hugh Heffner? :D

And the character that stole the show? The fire extinguisher robot. The one sided dialog Downey had with the robot was movie magic, and better than almost all the special effects.
Very good movie, and one I plan on owning when it comes to DVD.
Oh and I got a big laugh from other movie goers at the end when I said, At least he (Sam Jackson) didn't say anything about MF'in snakes on the MF'n plane...

Yeah that was a great touch. Its boring to watch a character by himself on screen for the whole time, the inanimate yet animated characters of his robots were a great thought.
