A lot more women are going to be beaten to death - legally.

As stupid as it sounds this is simply an affirmation that arbitration is legal. There are several other religious sects, notably Jews, that have similar courts acting as arbiters. Said courts do not have any authority over the law, and AFAIK do not try crimes, only civil cases.

That being said this sort of regression is beyond counterproductive.

Here's an iffy subject, but worth discussing. I realize full well that many Muslims are just ordinary folks with a snazzy religion, but at the same the growing Islamic influence in the world cannot be ignored. I'm usually all for tolerance and mutual respect, but the influence of Islam is not that of coexistence, and in the case of extremists who, while perhaps a small portion of the population, have the ear of powerful middle eastern governments, it's not even a case of peaceful coexistence. At what point do people draw the line and say, enough is enough? I don't have any desire to live under Islamic law, or to see my children live in such a world.

I just videotaped at a gallery opening of a bunch of images of people who saved Jews during the Holocaust. Albania, a Muslim nation, was one of only two countries to actively support the saving of the Jewish people despite the Nazi's breathing down their necks. Islam ultimately teaches love, peace, understanding, and fellowship. Like our Christian Right, there are just some who take it to the extreme and ruin it for everyone - and by their beliefs, will go to hell for it.

Sure - and I'd oppose the Christian Right in the same fashion, understanding that the majority of Christians are not fascist power mongers. Check the backlash on these forums to Palin's comments, for example. Should the reaction to the spread of radical Islam be any different, simply because it's a touchy subject to suggest that another cultural influence is dangerous? Or do you want to live under sharia law?

No, I do not want to live under law that is oppressive to my wife, my daughter, and my other daughter whom will be here in less than 4 weeks (wife has c section scheduled for Oct. 14).

But, but, they are your property aren't they?

Seriously tho', any form of law which so blatantly discriminates against an entire class of people is not a law, but a tool used by some petty people to maintain a false sense of power over another.
