- Someone, I think Thor or Fanny, posted a while back about an alledged Israeli strike on Syria. I guess we know what happened now.

That's the one where some of the latest Russian military defense technology was found inadequate.

incorrectly believed so, in my opinion. Syrias air defense network was bypassed by Israel because Israel flew up the coastline into turkey, and then skirted turkeys border until directly north of the facility (which itself was not guarded by s-300 or tor m1). Israel then flew south avoiding most anything Syria had in bombing the facility which was apparently not guarded as to not alert of its value.
this assessment was made by noting the fuel tanks of the israeli fighters were found on the turkey border with Syria, and a google earth map which has Syrias air defence ranges all mapped out.

Errr make no mistake Jedd. There is nothing Syria could do to stop Israel's Air Force. The Israeli Air Force is one of the best equipped and trained in the world.
Errr absolutely ludicrous to think that the Syrian Air Defenses are accurately depicted on Googleearth lmao.
Tho I assure you the Israeli's knew exactly where and what they are capable of. Syria's Air Force is a joke as are most in the Middle East. Even Egypt's is third string compared to most of the world.
I think it was me who posted the original link btw Halo. Was shocked more didn't come out at the time. Now it appears as if North Korea was helping Syria build a secret installation.
That's another country who should never have nuclear weapons ;( If the facts about the installation are correct Israel did the right thing. Especially in light of the fact they are still technically at war with Syria.
Another reason to never give land back to Syria /nods

Wow you guys... I meant they were highlighted on a google earth map. As in, you take a map.. and add in all the known AA sites and their range...

They don't show those accurately on Googleearth. I was merely commenting on you using that information to base an Israeli air strike off of. ;P
Most AA sites are mobile ;P

Aye, but Syria has very few S-300 / Tor M-1's
Most are accounted for position wise, and have been laid onto a Google Earth map to show the protected areas of Syria. Iran also has such a thing based on fixed AA, and they have much of the country unprotected. Besides, the fuel tanks on the turkish border show the route Israel took, either to approach, or to escape the target, and they did not fly through heavy AA fortified areas.

Fixed AA locations that are able to be identified by long/lat are nothing more than death boxes for those that man them.
GPS guided weaponry being what it is ....

If GPS guided weaponry had been available to the Allies, "The Guns Of Navarrone" would have been a five minute short, instead of a full length movie.

LOL! I thought that was funny too.... :)
We can map Syria's air defense system but I still get stuck in 5 o'clock traffic!!!!

So Israel cheated by going around Syria's air defense network? Call the UN! International outrage!
And Jedd, you might wanna look up what inadequate means.

Lol you love putting words into my mouth, but is it due to a lack of comprehension on your part, or your need to argue with me?
I was commenting in response to the assertion that the Russian AA was proven worthless.

The Russian equipment still keeps to be proven worthless. Thou Iran still considers spending 750 million + for them.
Hey Ill buy there vodka and ak's thou.

Watch for some Iranian and Syrian generals to meet those 72 virgins in Muslim Paradise much earlier than they expected. It seems the generals bought a bunch of very expensive air defense systems from the Russians that do not work

http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/04/israel.jpg (http://blog.wired.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/10/04/israel.jpg) U.S. aerospace industry and retired military officials indicated today that a technology like the U.S.-developed “Suter” airborne network attack system developed by BAE Systems and integrated into U.S. unmanned aircraft by L-3 Communications was used by the Israelis. The system has been used or at least tested operationally in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last year.
The technology allows users to invade communications networks, see what enemy sensors see and even take over as systems administrator so sensors can be manipulated into positions so that approaching aircraft can’t be seen, they say. The process involves locating enemy emitters with great precision and then directing data streams into them that can include false targets and misleading messages algorithms that allow a number of activities including control.

I was commenting in response to the assertion that the Russian AA was proven worthless.Did it work, yes or no? I'm sure it's possible the Syrians didn't know how to turn the systems on... but I'd expect for that investment, they'd at least get a user's manual.

Iran may not be very good with actual fighters and tanks and such, however they are excellent as far as Electronic Warfare goes... They aren't some backward country full of idiots who sleep on the streets and herd donkeys through the streets ya know. Israel could not even intercept Hezbollah communications in 2006, and Hezbollah intercepted theirs, and Israel blamed it on Iranian technology.
There is more to Iran then crap bought from Russia.

It was avoided... They were not placed in range of the target, and Israel skirted around them by going up along the coast of lebanon, turning at the border of Turkey and flying into Syria from the North. There is a reason that tactic was used.

It was avoided... That's what good strike fighters do. If an attack works, then the defense didn't.

Of course, but we are not talking about the defense... We are talking about the equipment. If the equipment was not in range to be used, then it cannot be deemed defective.
Syria has its S-300 systems guarding other locations/cities. They apparently left that building unguarded for 1 of 2 possible reasons..
1. To make it look like it was of no importance.
2. There was no reason to defend it
If you want to argue that Syria had a craptastic defense network, and Israel supremely navigated to make a successful strike on that building, I agree with you 100%
But you are arguing 2 different things, and in the end will only mistake my posts for me praising Syria anyways, so where to go from here?

I didnt call them idiots who sleep on the streets, There tanks and fighters might be full of rusted hulks. I really doubt there EW systems are so adapt that they need to send speed boats to look at ships. Again you show no proof to back up your words. But you say everything others link is BS.

I have no evidence to back up my claim at this time, will look for it again for ya, so you can take it for what it is... My opinion.
Iran has upgraded the old F14's and other fighters. They have worked a lot on electronic warfare, because apparently it is the main field where they do not have problems getting parts for.
Your example doesn't make sense... What do speed boats have to do with Electronic warfare?
Iranians as you know are very intelligent. It is not very hard for a country that has the money, to develop such technology.
And I never say every link other people post are BS. I simply pointed out that his link was an older article that was in relation to the first Iraqi offensive into Basra, and the articles speak of "GANGS" not the actual militia. He misunderstood his own article and claimed Al Sadr's militia in the other thread was carrying out death and rape squads.
Come on now... your a smart guy, right?
