I don't know how many of y'all read /gu comics, but it seems that someone has bought the rights from Paramount and is going to take a crack at putting the Star Trek universe online.
I don't know how many others of you, when SWG first came out said: "/yawn). Now why the hell doesn't someone design a game using the Star Trek universe?", but I did. At the time, I would have given my eye teeth to get the chance to play a Trill, or a Vulcan, or a Bajoran, or one of the other races (Cardassian, yum :) ), in that very rich, well-developed, and psychosocially complex enviroment (hey, even if the game sucked, we could fantasize while repairing the food replicators working our way up the, erm, food chain ;) ).
With the glut of MMORPGs now and their associated short lifespans (Woody's been running a 'bugzapper' series of panels about dead games/companies), I am more skeptical now that I was a couple of years ago, but I'd really, really, like to see Perpetual do this job justice and make a great game out of this. I think that it has an incredible capacity to be immersive and will be keeping an eye on it...
