What is wrong with the man saying "shit" to Mr. Blair? I say "shit" to my friends all the time, and we've at least been led to believe that the men are on very cordial terms with each other. I 'might' be bothered if he said 'shit' when he was all mic'ed up infront of a press corps, but this was during a casual conversation that was believed to not be recorded.

I am not a fan of Bush, everyone here knows and I probably didn't even need to reiterate that point. This being news is just grasping at straws of a pointless non-issue.

I actually thought it was quite funny. Rather Churchillian, in its charming way.
Blair hunched over him, Bush chewing and slouched.
Though I am always suprised at people who find the fuss itself suprising. At a conference, leaders are diplomats, and there is a diplomatic language you usually use.

Just hate it when people act dumb at these things. WHATS R ROIGN WITH THAT?!?!1

I just wish Bush would have challenged Assad to a cage match or sumfin... that would have rocked!!!

I don't know if this is the appropriate thread to mention this but I see where the buzz is to send in peace keepers..... that would be disastrous.... and totally ineffective. I don't think anything will keep Isreal from finishing up its objectives. I honestly don't think it will take them much longer to achieve 90% of what they want to do....what ever that is.

Oh and I want to add in here that Egypt and Saudi Arabia seem to be growning tired of Syria also. If Syria is your main ally in a war then you are screwed if your opponent is Isreal.

This wasn't at a negotiating table but rather a casual conversation between two men that have spoken on many occasions. I would bet that many of their conversations are fairly casual in manner, even about important topics. I 'might' see bigger importance to him saying 'shit' to the rest of the G8 conferance, but I can't believe all the major news outlets are reporting that this is some big deal. It's on CNN and Foxnews, so it doesn't even seem to be that partisan of an issue here. I think people are just too uptight in general recently.

Though I can't believe his parents didnt' teach him to chew with his mouth closed and not talk with food in his mouth.

Full transcript. An...interesting insight in to the leaders of the free world.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/5188258.stm

'A full transcript of the off-the-cuff conversation between US President George W Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair during a break at the G8 conference in Russia.
The president was caught on tape using an expletive as he described the actions of Hezbollah in attacking Israel.

The two men start by discussing an exchange of gifts:

Bush: And thanks for the sweaters - I know you picked em out yourself...

Blair: Oh yes absolutely - in fact I knitted it!!!

(laughter)

Bush: What about Kofi Annan - he seems alright. I don't like his ceasefire plan. His attitude is basically ceasefire and everything sorts out.... But I think...

Blair: Yeah the only thing I think is really difficult is that we can't stop this without getting international presence agreed. I think what you guys have talked about which is the criticism of the [inaudible word). I am perfectly happy to try and see what the lie of the land is, but you need that done quickly because otherwise it will spiral.

Bush: Yeah I think Condi's [US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice) gonna go soon.

Blair: Well that's all that matters but if you... You see at least it gets it going.

Bush: I agree it's a process...I told her your offer too.

Blair: Well it's only if she needs the ground prepared as it were. If she goes out she HAS to succeed whereas I can just go and...

Bush: You see the irony is what they need to is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's all over...

Blair: Dunno... Syria....

Bush: Why?

Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing...

Bush: (with mouth full of bread) Yeah

Blair: Look - what does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine. If you get a solution in Israel and Palestine. Iraq goes in the right way

Bush: Yeah - he's [indistinct]

Blair: Yeah.... He's had it. That's what all this is about - it's the same with Iran

Bush: I felt like telling Kofi to call, to get on the phone to Assad and make something happen.

Blair: Yeah BUSH: [indistinct] blaming Israel and [indistinct] blaming the Lebanese government.... '

Blair: Well that's all that matters but if you... You see at least it gets it going.

Bush: I agree it's a process...I told her your offer too [reference to trade T.O. to Syria].

Blair: Well it's only if she needs the ground prepared as it were. If she goes out she HAS to succeed whereas I can just go and... [pretend like I was talking about soccer]

Bush: You see the irony is what they need to is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this shit and it's all over... [but first let's let Isreal kick the shit out somebody]

Blair: Dunno... Syria....

Bush: Why?

Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing...

Bush: (with mouth full of bread) Yeah [T-man, you gunna eat that?]

Blair: Look - what does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine. If you get a solution in Israel and Palestine. Iraq goes in the right way

Moderates never get the spotlight.
It's the frothing at the mouth, mad dogs that get all the attention.
We've confused volume with substance, for the most part. You don't have to have a solution, just scream at the top of your lungs how botched up the other side is, and you'll get votes.
That's the ticket....

Lleauric

Its a PRIMARY.

He has opposition.. Its part of the process. Now, I like Lieberman, I volunteered on a campaign for him long ago, and he will probably win. But he faces serious competition from a legitimate and worthwhile candidate in Lamont. And that is the way is SHOULD be... A republican will NEVER win that seat, ever. So when does Mr. Lieberman become accountable for his actions to the people he represents?

Lieberman has tilted more to the right than many people whom he represents are comfortable with. Especially on the war in Iraq. This is at least a check and reminder that he needs to reflect the values of the people of Connecticut.

This isnt an evil plot unfairly designed to destroy Lieberman, its the system working correctly and properly.
MORE Congressmen should face tough primaries. Once these guys get in office they return with a 95% frequency. Due to gerrymandering and the 2 party system and the fact that our national political parties have attempted to make incumbent primaries irrelevant, accountability has almost disappeared.

People should be celebrating this. It is a pure good.

If the dems had some real strategy they would become the party of moderates, let the republicans go so far right that Santorum would look like he was a commie and let the left go to the green party. I bet there would be a mass movement of republicans to the dems while losing very few to the green party.

Truth be told, if there was not the Ken Starr tar and feather crusade launched by a few disgruntled republicans who were pissed at losing the White House, the legacy of the Clinton White house would be one of the better of our generation. He was in fact a very good president and statesman.

There are more people seeming to want to move to the center, understanding that the country will not survive if it goes either left or right. We need to be sheperded by a Moderate at this time in our nation's history; someone who has a firm grasp of both conservative values and liberal thinking and can find a way to blend the two to move us forward and protect the country in this time of global upheaval.

Haa haa.. my point exactly. 90% overall he has voted democrat on issues, and that is not enough. For fuck sakes.. his own former presidential partner has come out against him. What you people in Connecticut do is you business, but when you have fellow Senators (many who he has campaigned for) out there saying they are not backing him... it is just disgraceful. Lieberman is one of the TRUE democrats that is slightly moderate.. not some fake like Hillary.

The way it works is by not endorsing him.. you are saying that you are against him. Of course they will support whoever wins the DEMOCRATIC primary.. but they do not want see Lieberman win. I really do hope he loses.. then runs as a independant. One less official Democrat in the Senate when he wins.

Lleauric
07-20-2006, 11:21 AM
Its a simple question.. Who? What senator or congressman has come out against Joe Lieberman?

Is there an actual person? Or is it just another smear attempt by the rights megaphones to repeat a lie often enough until it is accepted as fact?

No Senator has opposed Joe Lieberman. The only thing they have said is that they will support the Democratic canidiate that the primary produces..
What is the problem here?

The way it works is by not endorsing him.

See, perfect example, thats not what you said. So either you were being intentionally dishonest, or you have been successfully spun by the Republican rhetoric.
This is what you originally said
but when you have fellow Senators (many who he has campaigned for) out there saying they are not backing him.

But you retreat off the falsehood because you know an exposed lie is indefensible.

So lets deal with the horrible crime of Democrats not coming arunnin' to shout to the world how much they <3 Joe. Crimes of Omission I think they are called.
Wtf are they supposed to say? "WE HATE NED LAMONT!!!"
Ned Lamont has a real chance of winning. The people in Connecticut are pretty enthusiastic about the multi-millionaire who took time off from his company the last 5 years to volunteer in inner city public schools.
If Democrats were stupid enough to come out against Lamont in favor of Lieberman, and Lamont wins, then they are hamstringing him in the real election. Other Senators have to sit this out.

btw, Bill Clinton in Connecticut today to help Joe.
