I'm pretty sure I brought up the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher before but I'll mention it again. WORTH THE READ! GET STORMFRONT (the first book) NOW! It's good, the rest are insta-literary crack!

Now while waiting for the latest Dresden book Ghost Story, I've been reading his other series The Codex Alera. The first book Furies of Calderon was abit of a slow read. Press on, digest it and then go get the second book Cursor's Fury. From that point on you'll be hooked! Again, an awesome series. So awesome infact that I just bought all the books left in the series for fear of not being able to get them later.

Needless to say, if you're looking for a writer that'll keep you reading while your butt goes numb on the toilet seat, Jim Butcher is THE man!

I really enjoyed this series. was a fresh take on the genre IMO and yes once he gets the story cranked up it's pretty non stop. there are some slow spots later on but hey no ones perfect. I really hope he re-visits Alera again soon.

Yeah, the past two weeks have seen me tear through Cursor's Fury and Princep's Fury. First Lord's Fury is sitting on my table waiting to be picked up. :) In the mean time, I still have to get Small Jobs and Ghost Story is coming out VERY soon. This guy is gonna make me broke!

the Furies series is...well...somewhat standard fantasy, originally conceived on a bet that two bad ideas couldn't make a good story. The two ideas? "Lost Roman Legion with Pokemon".

Both sides claim victory of the bet.

Dresden files is pure gold though.

Interesting way to put it hehe, though I'm glad he started expanding on the universe in the last few books. Just finished First Lord's Fury the other day and I'm hoping that isn't the last we'll hear from the Codex Alera.

I will admit though, the Dresden Files > Codex Alera, but both are great for feeding hungry reading appetites.

Well, The guy who came up with the two ideas claims the win from Jim deviating too much from the bad ideas. Jim claims victory by getting it published. I think they are both right.

Apparently, Gor was conceived of similarly, though Codex Alera beats Gor hands down. Well, anything beats Gor, hands down, unless you count the fact that it was wildly popular.

How ever it was conceived i was happy to see someone doing something unique and fresh in the genre. it did not contain one single dragon, dwarf, or freaking elf and while yes it did contain fireballs and magic missiles of a sort the were rooted in something other than mana or ethereal power. have not seen that since wiess and hickman with patryn and sartan rune thingie.
honestly Jim is such a good author he could take moby dick and make it a fun filled read.
