it really is depressing to find out how far the literacy rate amongst republicans have fallen.

It's definitely not just Republicans. According to some surveys, 80% of US families didn't buy or read a book last year and 42% of college graduates never read another book after college.

The future of the republican party...

he concluded by saying, "America has always been a kick-butt, take-names kind of country."

And you wonder why...

Welcome to modern post republican controlled America where intellectualism was frowned upon and schools were defunded. The school district here, despite huge economic issues, is soon to break ground on a $40 Million football stadium for the high school (because we all know the current one isn't adequate ) Yet, as an example, the black and white film photography class that has a waiting list to get in it can't find the $24000.00 dollars necessary to keep it going next year. I did donate a sum of money to fund it for the second half of this year. There is also an upcoming issue with funding the school library.

I'm sure our republican school board will find money for this...HAHAHAHA...as they have posters hung all over the school for the kids to go to the Christian Rock band playing nest week at the new 25 million dollar gymnasium at the new Mega church...admission is only $10.00...I wonder what the school is getting for the advertising?

Yep. Far as I know, it's not a problem limited to the US either.

Readership rates have been dropping worldwide in developed nations for the last decade or so, presumably because of the prevalence of information on the internet but unlikely entirely so. How this ends up affecting effective literacy rates is up in the air, but I think we're safe in predicting it won't be positive.
