View Full Version : Just wanted to share this
This morning on the way to work at about 0620 I was going 70mph on the interstate and got rearended by a vehicle going an unknown speed but I can garauntee you it was much faster than 70mph.
After fishtailing a bit and regaining control of my Expedition I put on my blinker and moved from the left lane to the right lane and then the shoulder but didn't notice anyone moving over to the shoulder with me.
I got the license plate number as it sped off. The line of traffic that had backed off when they saw me fishtailing was now all passing me and made it impossible to get back on and chase the car down.
I called 911 and gave them the information.....
To make a long story shorter, I nailed the license plate number perfectly and they caught the driver .... an 18 year old chick who said she fell asleep at the wheel and panicked when she hit me, wasn't sure she hit me at first, then sped off.
I will tell you this... she floored it to get away.
I am SOOOOO glad I got that number. Otherwise it would have been chaulked up to one of those things that happens and someone gets away with bullshit. Now she has to face hit and run charges.
Luckily noone was hurt but it could have been bad really easily.
Anyway that is all. I just wanted to vent a little bit.

I hate irresponsible drivers. People forget that they are literally driving a 1 ton weapon. As far as I'm concerned, throw the book at her.
Hope you're doing ok. I'd get yerself to a hospital right away. I got rearended by a lady putting on her makeup while driving. At first it wasn't too bad, but within a few hours I was seized up something fierce.

- I'm thinking gas chamber?
Good job Binuven. I always have some retard that pretty much tailgates for a mile then over-takes in the most retarded way which usuaully forces me to whack the brakes on. Maybe I'll start taking number plates. Or carry a grenade.

You would be surprised ...but she will just more than likely get a slap on the hand and be told..."bad girl dont do that again and oh your license will be suspended for 6 months." BTW...not like she still could not drive on a suspended license..who is going to stop her? :(
It happened to my sister and she was 7 months pregnant at the time!! The guy to top it all off did not have insurance so she her insurance company ate it. *sigh*
A couple of my friends were talking with me about it at work later that day. They had some senario's that had her coming home drunk from partying hitting me , then running so that she would be sober later or never get caught.
Another one said she could be covering for a boyfriend who was actually driving the vehicle... I have no proof of any of that (I didn't see who was in the car at the time) but when you run it leaves a lot of questions unanswered and implies some guilt.
Starrla is correct also (as were all of your comments above), that if she was never caught the very BEST I could hope for was to pay my $500 deductible for getting my truck fixed which is unfair.
I am not injured and no one else was either. That is important. My legs are sore but I attribute that to the 10 mile run I did on Tuesday.
The car was not registered in her name. What probably happened was the license came back to a parent who then were contacted by the police .... and mom and dad tracked her butt down.
I have an appointment with the adjuster to see what the damage is.
My first car accident of my life and the other person doesn't have the decency to stop and let me enjoy it :) haha!

that's why i hate driving on the interstate, although all 3 of my wrecks were on city streets. no, i didn't cause them, they ran into my car (1 drunk, 2 never saw my car in front of them - hello! shiny blue car with working brake lights in front of you!!) you were lucky to get the driver's license :) only the drunk took off from one of my wrecks, but we tracked him down by the oil spill he was leaving on the road.

Holy crap that is awful; glad you're unharmed though.
This weekend we had to make a sudden trip to NC from PA for a death in the family and along I-81 I witnessed some crazy driving. My personal favorite was going down the highway at 80mph at probably 3am and seeing the tractor trailers driving down the middle of the lane and then swerving back to the right lane. More than once I watched from behind while the truck rocked back and forth I was just waiting to see someone lose it. Some people just shouldn't be driving.

There may ultimately be some vicarious payback through all this. Damage to her car aside, if it wasn't in her name then she may end up facing some parental wrath, especially if the report the damage and her insurance coverage rises (already inflated for teenage drivers). May not amount to much, but it's something to dream about on the way to sleep. Glad you're alright.

Jeez Bise, glad you got control of your vehicle. After everything we've been hearing about the last few years about SUV's being unstable and easily fliped, that could have easily ended badly. I wonder if she would have stoped if you had started rolling / crashed?

Yikes Bise, glad to hear you're doing okay though. In the end, thats all that is really important. But we can hope that her 18 year old ass wont be driving again anytime soon.
Pretty much that is my attitude now. I'm just glad things worked out and no one was hurt.
I have done some stupid things at various points throughout my life so I can't throw too many stones.
