When I read about her statements today, I was flabbergasted. This image sums it up as well as any other:

She does make Mayor Nagin look almost sane by comparison.

She's a Republican contender for the primary to see who faces off Bill Nelson for one of FL's Senate seats. She's currently a Rep, but was heavily involved in the 2000 Bush v Gore election mess. I don't have the time (i.e., the rest of the night) to recount her various stages of lunacy. You can read about her latest misstep here (http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/08/28/senate.harris.ap/index.html). For more, just do a search at any liberal blog; I'm sure you'll find plenty.

She Said:

saying that God "chooses our rulers," that voters needed to send Christians to political office and that God did not intend for the United States to be a "nation of secular laws."

"If you are not electing Christians, tried and true, under public scrutiny and pressure, if you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin."

"If we are the ones not actively involved in electing those godly men and women," then "we're going to have a nation of secular laws. That's not what our founding fathers intended and that's (sic) certainly isn't what God intended."

I think we should elect more Mormons, and reinsitiute multiple wives for 1 man, or polygamy, as it were.
Also we need more Penicostals in office. Those snake handlers really know how to liven things up....

"God hates us, that;s why he send hurricane after hurricane.... and he wants New Orleans to be black again."

Yes I paraphrased. Let's put both on a slow boat to China anyway.

Ok, can someone distinguish for me if she is talking about "born-again christians", or just your run of the mill christians; I know there has been some strife between the two groups in the past over which was the most christian.

Rover

She's basically talking about the Southern Baptist fundamentalists.

Two Words: Crazy Bitch

Why do people like this have to continue breathing, they give the rest of us normal, non super-duper christians a bad name. They do more to destroy the cause than the guys actively trying to.

Nah...I'm not anti republican, I don't vote straight party lines, I vote for the best ideas and/or best qualified. I call it as I see it.

I don't believe that a President needs to have military experience to qualify for the job, nor do I think that having been in the military is a general rule for being a good leader, leadership is something one is born with not taught, but there are ways to refine it and the most important way is through experience.

I never saw a valid reason to go into Iraq, but I saw every reason to go into Afghanistan. I know there are a bunch here who call me a liberal, or probably think I'm downright anti-american, but that far from the case. I'm a former Marine who knows that war is destructive and that it rarely solves the problem and at all costs it should be the absolute last resort, but when one is cornered they should hit with everything they have, no holding back. Unfortunately this was not the case in Afghanistan or in Iraq, we dropped the ball.

You see in a war, the leaders never suffer, its the civilians and the soldiers that do. Civilians really have no choice as it is where they live, the soldiers, well, they count on their government officials to make sure they have everything they need to get them through. The soldiers usually go into a war highly motivated but once they see the reality of it, they just want to get it over with and go home, no sane person loves war as war is the epitome of insanity.

I'm bothered by very few things in life, but I have a true peeve with those who never served pushing our military into war based on the "Democracy is a good thing" philosophy, thats not a good enough reason to go and invade a country. If the people of that country truly want democracy they will do what those in our country did, or what the people in places like Romania did, they will rise up and revolt against those they want to remove from power.

Many like to compare the war in Iraq to our own revolution, they say that the beginnings of any democracy are usually fought for, on the surface this is true. In the case of Iraq, nothing could be farther than the beginnings of our own democracy. Bluntly put, the people of Iraq don't want us there and due to that, we are in a losing situation. Unfortunately it is a situation that many foresaw but were either smeared as unpatriotic or had their integrity questioned. The way they were treated was more Anti-American and unpatriotic than any dissent those people had.

When I enlisted in the Marine Corp, probably alot of people here were either not born or were very young. Those times were a time when our country had just come out of the Vietnam war and I assure you it was not a popular thing to join the military, let alone the Marine Corp. I joined out of a sense of duty to my country, I was brought up to believe that as citizens we had an obligation to give something back through either military service or through service in the peace corp or some similiar capacity. So I chose my service and did my duty.

I was a very motivated Marine, I had a keen interest in what is known as special operations, I've always been athletic, I could run like a banshee and I had a great amount of endurance. I chose my secondary MOS's based on this, in 1981 I completed sniper school and not long after that I trained as an Anglico. I could, and still can hit a target at 600 meters with ease and can sit almost on top of a hostile position and call in air, artillery or naval gun fire while eating my lunch and not feel one iota of emotion towards those on the receiving end. In other words I did my job as I was called on back in the day and if called upon by my country again would do my job without prejudice regardless of any perceived political leanings or whether or not I like the administration in power.

This brings me to my life today, in 2006. I live the American dream. I'm the president of a company I started 11 years ago, I have overcome the death of my young wife and have lived as a single father raising 4 very young children on my own until I met my fiancee 5 years ago. I believe full well that no matter who you are in this country if you try hard enough you can rise to the top. I'm not a fan of lifelong welfare recipients but I do know that sometimes people need assistance and I feel our government has an obligation to give that assistance. I'm not a believer in rhetoric spewed by politicians, i state my opinions based on life experience, my own and those that have taught me through their own experience.

This brings me to why I feel the way I do about the current administration in Washington and the neo-cons that they hold in such high regard. I dislike Cheney because the man is just simply dishonest, he has never exhibited anything other than his desire to line his own pockets or the pockets of his cronies in corporate America. I dislike Bush because I don't feel as if he has the best interests of the American people in mind, I also truly believe that intelectually he is lacking and was placed in the job by a court ruling and not by the citizens of this country. He relies on the neo-cons, people like William Crystal who never had any desire to serve our country yet are so quick to push our military into what are obvious untennable situations. These people ignore the power of a nations citizens and the resolve that the average person has. They think its all about projecting military power but they ignore the fact that military power is only as powerful as the citizens of the country you invade will let that power be. That lesson goes at least as far back as the American revolution, we let the British army be as powerful here as we wanted them to be...we then formed our own nation, on OUR terms after we beat them. That is the only parallel you will ever see in Iraq with respect to our own democracy.

I have much more to say on this, and perhaps I will take the time to post another lengthy post one day...but I assure you I am not unpatriotic, nor am I a hippie...I'm just a citizen, a former Marine who loves his country and see's that it is not on the right path in these troubled times.

I can't rep you Rover, but a good statement.
Doesn't mean I agree with your thinking some of the time, but still a well thought out post.
