Anyone else watching this series? It's based on Terry Goodkinds "Sword of Truth" series. For a TV series, I have to say, it's very well done and true to the books.

Closest city near me to show it is Harrisonburg, which is VERY far away from DC. So weird.

Yeah, I mean for TV, the effects are pretty decent. Especially considering there doesn't seem to be any amount of huge cash behind it. It's like literally watching the book hehe. Here's hoping it keeps going. :)

Errr it's not at all true to the books. It's a fucking travesty and an absolute horrible depiction of the storyline.
Did you even read it?;P

LOL, it is on at 6pm Sunday nights on the independent channel, which explains why I never knew it was on, being an avid follower of 60 Minutes for the last 20 years,or so.
Will have to check it out.
Watched the first half of it tonight, and that was enough. Will pass on this.

Yes I did, twice even, and for an on screen depiction it's pretty damn good. Wizards first rule was BORING for the first half, or did you lock that part out of your mind? :p The book (and the rest of the series for that matter) became literary crack after the first half of Wizards First Rule imho.

But but but they are making things up as they go along that have NOTHING to do with the story.
How can you stomach the actor they have playing Richard? Hell he's tiny, more suited to playing Chachi in Happy Days than playing Richard?
It's a foul depiction of the works of Goodkind. There is no excuse , no right to call this a fair adaption by any means.

No worries it was worth a couple of bucks. I watched the first two episodes and have managed to catch the others on TiVo now I just have to find the time to watch it.
I have mixed feelings about it. Obviously whenever you read a book that spans so many years you develop a connection with the characters and you formuluate in your head your own idea of how they should appear. Given that statement I agree with Fandros the guy playing Richard is too meh to be Teh Richard of later in the story. He's too short and too boyish looking. I guess I could live with Zedd, but Chase is too small, and Khalan isn't pretty enough. But overall it's not bad and I'm enjoying it. Granted I haven't gotten to the parts where they really start adlibing some things I was like... huh? Others I can't remember I read the first book so many years ago I can hardly remember it.
Good stuff, I'll be watching it for sure:)

eh alright I finally encountered the parts in the story that are like WTF...
I'm not digging some of the story line, I think it's so far from the story that's frankly stupid. I've watched the first 4 episodes now and only liked the first 2. If this continues I doubt I'll continue watching.

There was one scene that sold it to me. Richard, after being tracked down by a map made by some ole coot. Bah, can't recall his name he's involved in the actual production of this and was also in Xena as well as Herc. Regardless there was a big sword fight shortly thereafter. Richard was holding the sword and swinging it in all sorts of less than accurate ways.
Was just awful, awful awful....I guess Richard The Chachi Seekerman isn't powerful in this series so much as he is an ice skater with a fly rod.

Richard started out quite awkward as a swordsman, as it was through the power of the sword alone that he survived the beginning of the first book. I do recall on numerous instances, him training his swordsmanship to be a better fighter.
On the other side, yes it needs work, but it is a new series and needs to shake itself out. I will admit I had thought Richard would be a bit bigger, but at the beginning of the books he was a young woodsman. He didn't do weights or any of the sort, he was a tracker and a hunter, nothing that huge muscles would be required for. He is in good shape though, so at least there is that.
The only other problem is the fact that the woman who plays Kahlan should be naked.....all the time......period! :D

LMAO Disc, wait to you see him do a side wall jump off a wagon while looking as if he's going to flip a fly to a promising trout location.
Bin, if you read book 1 again I think you'll find Richard described as already a large man due to hard physical labor throughout his life.
If you've ever spent a good portion hiking, hunting ( pre 4wheeler to haul out your elk), chopping wood and such you'd not be as small as some Jr high kid.
Eh, I gave up on the series midway through the second episode I think it was. If it turns around I'll pick it up on dvd or such so I can skip the bad shows.

OMG I'm quoting Wiki so it must be true! But, I think most who have read the series will agree that this pansy ass kid playing him is no where near what he is depicted in the books.
Richard Rahl is a young man with thick, coarse, light brown hair, a hawk-like brow, gray eyes and powerful muscles. He is bigger than most men, perhaps 6' 2" ( it is believed by most, that when he was digging a grave in the 9th book entitled Chainfire, his head was level with the ground ), with broad shoulders. He starts the series in his mid-twenties. His eyes are gray and piercing, and the color is used as an identification of him several times later in the series. Several women in the series claim that he is one of the most handsome men they have ever seen. He wears earth tones at the start of the series, with dark greens and browns. However, later on, he acquires the outfit of Baraccus, the First Wizard during the Great War. He wears a golden cloak and black tunic, with silver wristbands carved with runic symbols. At his waist are pouches containing various items, most notably is white sorcerer's sand and black sorcerer's sand. Usually he wears the Sword of Truth at his hip, in a special leather baldric. Around his neck is, among other things, a gold medallion with a large ruby in the center.

I read a wizard's first rule, and just couldn't stomach the thought of a gazillion more books like it. Literary crack? You sure yer not just smoking regular crack?

Well everyone has their opinions. Pretty sure it was only like 11 books not a gazillion and the books got darker and darker and far better which each release. Great stuff, this series however sucks :(

Aye, Wizards First Rule was SLOW going at first. I had my friend reassure me numerous times that it got better. About half way through the book the series started to pick up.

Saw Episode 8 tonight with the intro of the Mord Sith. I liked the leather, but the damn Agiel's looked WAY too big. Kinda felt a bit rushed too, but meh, I'm just happy to see something resembling the series on TV.

Doh, I forgot to hook up my TiVo after getting cable again this week. I decided to go back to HD for BSG and Lword final seasons. That plus HD Triple play was decently priced. Feh, I guess I'll have to buy it on iTunes.

Is this an actual decent series? I couldn't handle the books after book 5. The screen shots I saw for it, reminded me of Hercules and Xena production level. Please tell me its better than that.

No it's not any where close to the quality of Hercules or Xena. This is B-rate but it's something to watch so I do.
Speaking of Xena, Lucy Lawless made a guest appearance on the Lword last night. I really really really hope to see *more* of her ;)
