I can't believe I'm the only one to watch the 2 hr show last night.
Interesting take on Locke not being Locke. I never guessed Jacob and the Smoke Monster were one and the same. Now it looks like he's Locke too.
Also, I wonder what Juliet meant that it had worked? Maybe it fractured the timeline when the bomb went off, and some of them made it to the timeline?
Also, I don't think Sayid is Sayid after his dunk in the water.
Anyone else watch this last night?

Jacob =/= the smoke monster
I thought it was the black haired guy he was talking to who wanted to kill him. Isn't he the smoke monster and the pretend Locke?

Yeah... Jacob is not the smoke monster, the man in black is. He arranged things so that John's body would be taken back to the island so that he could take the form of John to deceive everyone and thus convince Ben to kill Jacob. When Jacob's people came in and started shooting "John", he turned into the smoke monster and killed them.
After Jacob's followers at the temple heard that Jacob was dead, clearly some protection that Jacob had over the temple would be gone, hence the defenses that needed to be put up.
As it the "it worked" comment, it appears to have created two timelines. One where the bomb went off and the island sunk, and one where it never did, but it returned the people stuck in the 70's to their proper time. In other words, instead of making it as if the plane never crashed, it made it as if both happened.. the plane crashed and didn't crash. So it did work, just not how they had imagined. Parellel universes maybe.

Ack, I meant the man in black, being the smoke monster and pretend Locke, not Jacob.
I'm pretty sure Jacob is in Sayid's body now.

I'm pretty sure they have totally jumped the shark, and I'm only going to watch this season to finally watch it end.
And for Evangaline Lily's boobies

Ok, so here's my lost theory...
Smoke monster can take the form of dead people.
BUT new Sayid is new Jacob.
Notice the little differences in the "plane not crashing" timeline? Hurley's "the luckiest man alive" now, instead of feeling cursed. The doctor is now the one who needs flying reassurance instead of the black lady. Also, a few people seem to be missing.
Prediction: Smoke monster gets off the island by impersonating Julia.

I don't think he's trying to get off the island. "Home" is probably that temple.

As some one who never watched any of this show, I must say the discussion here sounds like it would be the best episode of In Living Color, ever.

It has pretty well gone off the reservation for a couple seasons now. Rather than resolve things in a reasonable way, they seem to be trying to top last season's craziness instead.
I don't think Sayid is Jacob....
I was a little let down that Illyana and her crew that were working for Jacob got waxed so easily...
Do you think Richard is dead or just beat up/unconcious?
Also, did you catch the Flocke (fake john locke) say "it's good to see you out of chains" Richard?
I have also see people refer to the fake John Locke as Unlocke LOL

My friend has a theory that the island is a space ship that crashed on earth millennia ago (the unknown power source being its engine), the smoke monster and Jacob are aliens (perhaps the statue is of their alien form prior to taking the form of humans?), and "home" is their homeworld.
I don't buy it, but I thought it was interesting.

The whole thing being a figment of Hurley's imagination works for me.

Then Hurley needs to write it all down, and get rich!

I'm starting to lean more towards the 'crashed alien ship' storyline. Seemes to make more sense than just about anything else.

I'm leaning more Good v Evil Biblical thingy.....

Interesting episode last night. Starting to answer the "why did everyone have so much interaction before coming to the island" question but, honestly, if "Jacob orchestrated it all" is all they say about it and leave it at that I'll be a bit disappointed.
Also, I'm still a bit confused about Ben's relationship with the smoke monster / new Locke. In the episode where the mercs killed Ben's daughter, obviously Ben was able to summon Smokey, and I was under the impression then that the smoke monster was some kind of protector of the island. Last night's episode showed otherwise and the entire season seems to imply that Ben knows nothing about who / what the smoke monster is.

I derive much greater enjoyment from watching every male in sight exhibit Days of our Lives symptoms than I could ever get watching the actual show.

Akom,
I don't think Ben "calls" the smoke monster, he just either released it or lowered a barrier or something.... jmo.
