View Full Version : Main/Alt Trends?

I was thinking about this the other day and i figured my curiousity has reached a point where i should post and ask this.

Basically im just curious as to what your main is and your alt(s) are, and to find if there are any trends going on.

My main was a 65 Monk and my alt was a Ranger. (i now play a beastlord full time)

How about you?

Maybe this belongs in a different section, however ill leave that up for the mods to decide =)

I on the otherhand am an alt fanatic. I get bored playing the same thing day after day after day. My current main is a 34 Pally with a tag team 31 Druid, alts include a 59 Ranger (first char), 56 War, 56 Clr, 52 Nec, 49 Rog and 46 Wiz. It keeps the game somewhat new for me and since I am not a big raid fan I can always log on and do something different whenever I want.

Main 65 Bard 110 AA's
Alt 65 Shaman 150 AA's

I recently made my bard my main. Talk about a great combination. I can pull solo's, mez, throw a harmony of sound, malo and slow. The fight is basically over before any damage is taken. Mana regen wise? Well Shaman (Maybe Necro's) are the best at mana regen in the game, throw in the bard and my only down time is killing what I need to kill.

I also 2 box a 65 Enchanter and my 65 bard. You want easy charm killing, get an enchanter and a bard together. Charm breaks and the bard has a quick mez for the enchanters pet.

Main is shaman, alt is wizard. During most fights, the shaman does his thing at the start of the battle (Malos, slow, etc), and the wizard gets to work toward the middle of the fight. I can root park with both and find alternating between the two pretty smooth.

First main ever Wiz (Retired at 41, after porting to WC and Kizdean gix quickly kicked his ass. I looted my corpse went to EC sold everything and a Paladin was born.) Wiz is currently lvl 53

Second main Paladin (Retired at 55, Back in the Kunark days after spending 5 hours straight LFG in sebilis, to be told by another paladin forming a group that they "needed a tank")

Last and Final Main is Khondor 65 Warrior.

Alts to play around with on the side.

63 Bard (by far the most fun alt I have made, very versatile)
49 Ranger
48 Ranger (what can I say, 1-50 is too easy now days if you dont like one's race- go with another)
46 Magician
29 Monk

Alts on same account different servers (because I just like starting from scratch with no twinking)

34 Necromancer on Stromm,, Someday I may go back and build on this toon some more, or make one on Ayro twinked to the hilt.

44 Warrior on Karana server.

These are all on same account, I have several 65 toons I use on a regular basis also but none that I can call my own.

Gnore says :

I can pull solo's

You wouldn't pull for me in LDoN hard =(

that after this

Shit, Noarm, I know that I can pull a better train then anyone else in the game if need be. I love Kazumi's Note of Preservation (For you Shaman pullers - This is the Bards Invunerability Song that last 3 Ticks) and then Faiding Memories (I hope I don't have to explain what that is).

Wait, there is a named in those 40 NPC's. Let me pick him out of there and bring him back to camp. I know this will take a little doing but, there I got her. "Inc. Noarms Ogre looking Moma". Group_Member_1 /g damn, I have never heard of that one before, I wounder what she will drop? Group_Member_2 /g I think she drops something called Noarms Stench Diapers. AC is killer because of the stench on those.

So you can pull as well as this, yet you say and i quote :

bards don't pull well in hard.

Well, you did a very good job mezzing and twisting to your credit, you were just lucky we had a great monk (Raohll i love you!)

Grumblin,

First off, I am not giving you shit on what I write, I am only letting you know how things work on a bard.

How many bards have you done hard adventures with that have pulled? Out of those bards that have pulled, how many are elemental flagged? I am not elemental flagged (Meaning, I don't have the gear to take the hits of pulling 3 or more on our group or the mana regen to get my mana back as fast as they do). Those buggers hit pretty hard.

Bards do not pull well in hard adventures, period. Can they, sure they can. 75% of bard lulls are resisted on hard adventures.

You said to me, just use Faiding Memories. I could have pulled that way and ran out of mana in like the first 15 minutes of the adventure. Total cost for 1 FM is 900 mana, with 220 Int How many FM's do you think that I could have done before running out of mana?

On the quote that you put out for me with the pulling the named out of 40 NPC's. Pulling 1 MOB out of a group is a lot different then FM every other pull.

If you want to join me on a normal adventure, I will show you how a bard pulls, which is way to easy. We should be looking for a shaman around 7:30 - 8:00 CST tonight. I will look you up. I am serious on this, join us, you will be a nuking shaman, which I seee you like to do.

BTW, I was the one that let the one run, because my snares where resisted about 75% of the time until I hit them with Harmony of Sound (Resist Debuff). I had to switch out weapons and a drum to twist that song because I don't have my epic. I should of asked you to throw a malo on every Mob, but I didn't want to waste your mana.

The cleric's death in the beginning of that adventure I put all on myself. And, Raohll did do a great job on pulling.

Gnore 65 Bard

Have done them with many bards, and each one pulled, but yes you are right, most/all of them were e flagged or almost there. About that cleric death? bleh happens, i should have rooted, cleric could have stunned, i forget who we had as a tank, but the paladin could have stunned/rooted. In ruj, though, there are only a few pulls with more than 2, on a 2 pull you can bring em both and mez if lull resists, which you did leetly ~ and on more than 2 pull have the monk pull.
As for me malosing, 400 mana, i could nuke like twice with that! Not pulling is cool, i blew up at you because you were being all retarded in the other thread i quoted from.

Enough of what could have been, though!

Sure thing i'll join ya, ehlp on the timezone difference!?

I started out as a monk (knew so little about the game I spent about 2 weeks in level 8 doing newbie quests). I got a bit frustrated mid-forties and started playing my shaman more and more until he became my main. Low sixties switched over to my bard, who just rocks. So I must take exception to:

How many bards have you done hard adventures with that have pulled? Out of those bards that have pulled, how many are elemental flagged? I am not elemental flagged (Meaning, I don't have the gear to take the hits of pulling 3 or more on our group or the mana regen to get my mana back as fast as they do). Bards do not pull well in hard adventures, period. Can they, sure they can. 75% of bard lulls are resisted on hard adventures.

I pull hard whenever I can get a group together. My guild is just starting in VT (no loot from there for me) and am not elemental or even Sol Ro flagged yet. I do have 240AA, with MC maxed. (FT, btw, is no so much easier to get with LoDN. So stop complaining and buy some augs). There was definitely a learning curve, but once you get a feel for it bards are still the best pullers there. Lull is resisted a lot, but critical resists are rare if your CHA is 250+. I find I only need to fade 2-5 times an adventure anyway. There are usually only a few rooms that need breaking. Be selective with lulls and try to split the room in half. You need to be able to handle 2 pulls with an occasional 3. When I get adds, I usually mezz my original target on the pull. This reduces confusion on what the MT should be on, since it doesn't make it to camp, and I can fade it off if I want to.

Dennod
01-08-2004, 04:18 PM
The Lull change wasn't the issue here. The problem was the lull resists. I was getting 75% of my lulls resisted. I found out that my charisma was way to low (197 with Shaman Buff) and am working on it. I also didn't have the level 65 mez (I Do now) and most things I was getting resisted on until I threw on a HoS ahead of time.

I posted earlier on Bards not being good pullers on Hards. I guess with what I have for equipment. I was/am not ubber enough.

What is a good Charisma to have to not get resisted 75% of the time? 225? 250? Let me know.

I would love to pull on Hard adventures but I know that being resisted that much doesn't boad well for a quick and easy adventure.

Pulling in a normal adventure is easy.

I believe Charisma has zero bearing on whether Lull is resisted. What it does affect is whether the mob will aggro on you or not, if you do get a resist.

I believe Charisma has zero bearing on whether Lull is resisted. What it does affect is whether the mob will aggro on you or not, if you do get a resist.

But that's a major issue. I don't mind casting lull a few times if they don't aggro on the resist. If a mob resists a few I pick a different one. If he's resisted three, he's likely to keep resisting. (BTW, I would estimate resists closer to 50% then 90, because I don't keep casting on the same mob unless I have to). Since I'm only trying to split the room, I just need it to hit one usually. Rarely two, when the 30 second duration might come into play with too many resists.

With a Shaman buff I get 250 CHA which seems to be high enough. You Bard CHA song gets it to 305 if I'm having problems (like Tak where the resists seem higher). The key is patience. You have may have to leave the group a bit earlier to set up pulls and they may have to wait for you in difficult situations. But if you don't rush and leave a larger than normal pulling distance (for when you need to fade) it works fine.

Dennod
01-09-2004, 01:57 PM
Hawl and Taleran thanks for the information.

Charisma now at 209 with shaman buff. I can twist in my charsima song and will be over 250. It will be a long time before I get to the 305 but I am sure I will get there.

I will go back and try this again and hopefully I get a little better results.

Doing Normal Adventures are cake and I would like a little more of a challange.

65 bard 110 aa's.

In velious gear mainly, except the gear I've aquired from pulling hard ldon's:)

The above opinions are spot on. I had a terrible time with critical resists on hards until i got a charisma buff. Hawk's point about picking your lull target is a great tip. I've been pulling a lot in NRO hards lately, which have some dense rooms. Generally, 2 in front, 2 in back and one somewhere in between. Use an eye or creative targetting to pick the one in the middle and lull, pull the front two and mezz one on incoming.

Keys I've found to doing this include having the 65 mezz for the entended range, using HOS to pull for a reliable mezz hit and having Bellow aa for when you need to lull more than one for a quick pull. I can only fade 3 times in a row, but I rarely need more than 3 for an adventure.

Druids tend to have rogue alts.

Monks tend to have shaman alts.

What are these... alts you speak of? ;)

I've tried playing almost every other class in the game, and compared to the enchanter, I find them boring :/ (26 shaman 25 wizard 20 warrior 20 rogue 18 enchanter 13 ranger are my current alts, seldom played). The two that I've somewhat enjoyed have been ranger and wizard. (Curiously enough, the closest thing I've had to a class mentor in EQ was originally a ranger, and is now a wizard ;) ).

Enchanters tend to make monk alts. I don't know whether they eventually get itchy driving from the back seat, and want more control on the front end, or figure if they're going to be tanking in a dress, they'd rather have a little meat on their bones, but I've watched several enchanter friends make a monk alt for convenience's sake (camping spawns, etc), and eventually convert entirely. I just find the entire melee/getting your hands dirty thing not to my liking, and figure that's what you have those grotty folk who actually kill things (or your pets) do ;) .

As far as pulling Hards and the Lull conversation goes... Bards can pull Hard LDoN's just fine, and they don't have to be uber either. LDoN FT gear helps a lot, but the trick is indeed to get your Charisma up as high as possible.

Not sure about a high charisma lowering resists, but from what I've noticed, once you are resisted, there seems to be a charisma check to see if the mob agro's. I've gotten resisted 4 times in a row and no agro. Eventually it sticks. Or...

I'll just switch to another and pull the resistant one /shrug.

65 Cleric (Main) (Epicced)
61.3 Beastlord (Epicced)
56 Bard (Epicced)
31.5 Enchanter
29 soon to be 30 SK
25 Rogue
22 Monk
16 Wizard
15 (And climbing) Beserker
(Variety of alts on the remaining slots in both accounts under level 10)
Would be higher on the bard and others but being a cleric tends to not let you have alot of free time unless nothing going on usually.

I have noticed that alot of clerics tend to make bard alts or Beastlord alts lately..Or at least the other clerics i know have them...Beserkers seem to be the flavor of choice this month...
