- Blimey, I thought we had trouble with the French letting immigrants flood in through Calais.
Seems you guys are fooked. Bring on another Alamao!

I hear on the radio news yesterday (I'm not making this up, but I haven't verified it) that the Department of Homeland Security has given a $325m contract to Halliburton for "portable shelters/holding areas for a possible huge influx of illegal immigrants."

Perhaps there's some party planned that we don't know about.

Funny how Mexico is always so uptight about their "sovereignity", but they piss and moan when the US does anything to safeguard it's own borders.

Unofficially there are 10 million illegal aliens in the US at any one time. That's like having the entire population of a country the size of Sweden tucked away in the US illegally.

Yesterday there was a story about Mexican soldiers (with heavy machine guns) on US soil assisting marijuana smugglers. If that isn't reason to get serious about guarding our border, I don't know what is.

Well I'll take the Mexicans over the Muslims any day. They work hard and could care less about Allah. However I do hope we build one great big fucking wall across the border.

Official Mexican soldiers, Gulor? Can you provide a link to that article?

The one I read yesterday may take a little digging up, but I'll try. The one I see today in a different site says they were just dressed as Mexican soldiers (implying they may not be).

http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/01/25/D8FBOSCO3.html

Yesterday's article mentioned Humvees with mounted machine guns (implying military vehicles), today's calls them SUVs (implying civilian vehicles).

I'll see what else I can dig up.

*edit* Here's a different story-

I'm guessing they were just posing as (or simply confused with) soldiers. That'd be a pretty ballsy move on Mexico's part.

I would doubt it's being "officially" sanctioned by the Mexican government. However, all of their federal branches are so thoroughly corrupted by the drug trade that it's likely a small unofficial operation going on.

Here is another take on it claiming they are anti-drug commandos (trained by the US) who have switched sides and are now working for the druglords.

I'm curious how the Mexican government will spin this one.

Why not make our border with mexico like the DMZ in N/S Korea? I mean we put up fences, take 100 yards on each side and place thousands and thousands of land mines, build concrete walls that extend atleast 15-20 feet down in to the earth to help stop tunneling and then put signs up. If the person can make it thru 100 yards of fences, razor wire and land mines alive we send them back but with $100 US for making it to the US but you have to go home.

Better yet another idea we have alot of homeless and mentally ill people that do not want to work in the US. How about we have them denounce their US citizenship and sell it to a Mexican National that wants to come to the US in exchange they homeless person moves to Mexico with the cash they got and the US gets a productive person vs a drain on society.

Wow, SC how "insensitive" you are to the plight of "undocumented workers". All they want to do is to "have the Opportunity to better themselves".*

I've always thought we should mine the borders. All it would take is 1 exploding Illegal Mexican Immigrant and the word would spread REAL fast to to try and cross the border.

Sixee thats not exactly how that'd work. There are tons of immigrant deaths each week where they try to cross the borders. I'm certain that mines wouldn't stop them.

Really? I wonder why those stories don't make the news?

From the actual article:

The map plan is backed by Humane Borders, a US-based organisation which operates about 70 emergency water stations near the 3,200-km (2,000-mile) border.

'Not helpful

Launching the project in Mexico City, officials from Mexico's Human Rights Commission (HRC) flatly denied they were trying to encourage greater migration.

"The only thing we are trying to do is warn them of the risks they face and where to get water, so they don't die," said Mauricio Farah of the HRC.

The article quoted 500 deaths last year alone. Why don't they make the news? Because no one cares except for a select few. People would rather have me waste my tuesday morning sitting in front of the Supreme Court to catch a glimpse of Anna Nicole instead of hearing about the case that happened just before it regarding the Vermont Republican Party. There were 10 more crews @ the Supreme Court yesterday than I saw at both confirmation hearings combined -- if that gives you any insight into what this country and their news cares about.

Yeah, we should care that people are trying to cross our borders illegally, rather than who won American Idol, or Anna Nicole Smith (as fine as she is).
What I don't agree with is helping these illegal immigrants in any way shape or form. If they put up these "watering holes" it will look like an unsanctioned invite into this country.
The thinking is, "Heck if they didn't want us here, then why is there a place for me to get a drink in the middle of the desert?"
We should make it as apparent as we would to a 5 year old they illegal immigration is not sanctioned in any way, shape or form.
If that means building a wall, so be it. Let's add razor wire, land mines and armed patrols to make sure there is no misunderstanding. We want you to come to America to work, but do it LEGALLY!!!
