The silly thing is,I thought the total value of the money Martha saved by selling the stick 1 day early was something stupidly small, like 60,000$. The stocks total value was 240k.

I mean, Martha's net worth was over 1 billion dollars, or at least close to that -- we are talking about 1 40th of one percent of her net worth.

There are big money scandals. People manipulate the market and steal millions of dollars. Martha Stewart's possible fraud is small potatoes -- we need to go after bigger fish.

Hi. Martha Stewart is a role model and a well known seat holder. She is being used as an example with good cause.

Let me go grab my torch and pitchfork.

Insider trading is one of the SEC's biggest no-no's. If you know of someone who's doing worse and you have proof, the SEC would love to hear about it. And heck, I would too.

Besides, if it were such a "silly" sum of money...wtf did she do it for?

My favourate pseudo-factoid:

Some economists where doing a study determining how quickly the market correctly accounts for new information.

So, the idea was, they would track press releases, use long-term stock market prices to determine what the proper response to a piece of information was, and determine how long it took the stock to factor in the information into its price.

The answer was something like 12 seconds. Negative 12 seconds.
