Recent claims have it that 10 billion dollars that was supposed to be used for food and medicine for Iraqs population during the sanction years was instead funneled of to various politicians and buerocrats. :eek

Now when you mention it, I do remember you mentioning something about this. However, I don't remember you backing it up with any evidence. If I understand correctly, there have been suspicions for many years. But now proof is beeing assembled, and official accusations are starting to be made. Not sure, but that's the way I understand it.
By the way, did you or did you not claim that the precident of France was the main beneficiary of this fraud? Did you make any specific targets at all?

Actually I've ranted more against Kofi Anan and his son (lately), but the French, Germans, Russians, Chinese, and others all benefited from the Saddam regime.
And not entirely through the UN programs... Russia sold military equipment (night vision goggles, GPS scramblers) and China sold fiber-optic and other computer technology.
The truth may yet come out.

Kind of makes you wonder, if they were getting kick backs and the fraud turns out to be true it will be a big slap in the face of all the Anti-War types.
Also be interesting to see if any/and which U.S. Officials were profiting from this as well, it certainly would have given Germany, Russia, and France compelling reasons to oppose the war *if* it is true.

This alone takes away any faith I had left in the UN.
It also explains why there was such resistence....
Us bearing the bulk of the financial responsibility to keep Iraq in their so called international "timeout" while the alleged higher morals crew rakes in the cash.
How far will this go? Will there be brought to light further collusion?

The Guardian story is a tale told by Tariq Aziz, aka the mouth of Sadam, who the world laughed at as he said Iraq was winning the war with tanks outside the Information Ministry. Exactly why is he credible now?
From the Fox story
On the reported finding, a U.S. government official told Fox News: "We have nothing at this time to substantiate it and have not seen the documents the story reports were found. We are looking forward to taking a look at the documents to see if they provide any useful information. [But] Until the documents are provided to the U.S. government or the British government, they stand as just a single news report."
I was unable to find anything about such reports being handed over to the United States. Why is that?

The Washington Post notes that Mr Aziz might have had an incentive for telling his US interrogators what they wanted to hear about Paris and Moscow's role in the run-up to war.
