Well, since the Democratic race is pretty well over, I guess it's time to start running some threads about McCain. Here's one that should create a sharp divide between the Obama/McCain camps:

Blech, I remember that. Not McCain's vote specifically, just the fact that it took Arizona a while to get it right. We really are something of the armpit of the west.

Here's a more up to date news article on McCain, Sanchek --

McCain's adopted Hindustani daughter trumps pretty much any race card, particularly given how that played out in 2000.

While McCain and his speech writers could most likely present some sound rationale for his vote at the time, I see this as being the potential Jeremiah Wright for John McCain. As Wright alienated some white voters, McCain's vote will surely have the same affect with some black voters, as well as voters from other groups.

We will be hearing these arguments in the general election, because no matter how many times these candidates pledge to run clean campaigns, they have both already demonstrated they do not consider their pledges to be cast in stone.

McCain is too old. I am very disappointed in the Republican party choices lately.

have the same affect with some black voters

in all seriousness how many Black voters will be picking McCain. Black republicans as a whole are a small number, of which in my discussions with the few ii know, are leaning toward Obama.

(the 3-4 black republicans i know are more morally conservative than conservative elsewhere, somewhat similar to myself)

Before we jump on him vetoing this bill can we get a list of all the earmarks and riders?

I know McCain has been a big opponent of earmarks so are we sure he voted against it due to the original intent of the bill or perhaps in reaction to some heavy pork?

Did you read the article? It states why he voted no on the issue.

Here you go, from the article:

In a February 2000 interview with ABC News, McCain said his initial opposition to a holiday was based on his belief that “it was not necessary to have another federal holiday, that it cost too much money, that other presidents were not recognized.”

Ahhh well I know that during that time McCain was enjoying his role as fly in the ointment.

I can see where folks would take issue with McCain however.

Bigger issues than this sink McCain.

Son of an Admiral who got him into the Naval Academy, finished dead last in his class (aka Didnt belong there), came home and divorced his wife who waited for him while he was a POW, married an Heiress who bankrolled his political career.

Just doing a cursory check on wikipedia, I saw he came in 894 out of 899. Still low, but not dead last heh.

Oh the irony. Remember Kerry? I voted for it before I voted against it. Flip flopper? I don't recall any republicans offering to excuse his votes because of possible objections to earmarks or riders.

Wow...what a douche.

the part that baffles me is he is ex-military and ex-pow and is pro war as it stands now. You would think he would spear head changes in the strat. I mean seriously no CH-line or anything

"came home and divorced his wife"

Should read:

"came home, cheated on his wife, then divorced his wife, who had been raising his 3 children after having been in a near fatal auto accident, to marry a woman, 17 years younger and rich who later became addicted to drugs she stole from her charity organization." :)

....no one's a saint even in the party of "family values".

McCain does have huge objections to how we have been fighting the war. As I recall he's one of the driving forces to get Bush to change his strat.

Didn't realize he finished so far down in his class youch!
