Ok so Transportation Cabinet member resigns, the Supreme Court (which bush sat 2 members of) says Bush overstepped his bounds with the whole limo driver incident.

I am wondering if the republican party is slowly starting to withdraw their backing of King George, in preperation for the coming election, maybe trying to add some sort of "we fixed the problems with the party" in hopes of retaining the Repub majority in Congress.

CNN or MSNBC had a blurb about how many voters who normally are independant or centric (like myself) are going to vote democratic (or more liberal candidates) just because many voters are unhappy with the way the Republicans have run the last 8 years or so.

There may be some truth to that, Grey.

I left the Republicans for an Independent tag after the way they tarnished the party trying to nail Clinton, and wasting millions of dollars doing it. Several coworkers and friends made pretty much the same move, and in conversations it has been a common theme that the Republican party needs to be shaken from it's complacency.

One of the prevalent complaints is the inability to trust anyone in government, and so sincerity is going to be a key requirement in the coming election. Bush has brazenly stepped on most of his campaign rhetoric of being the compassionate conservative and most of those who rode his coattails into their positions are likely to pay the penalty now. The Pelosi (sp) led Democrats have done little more than try to obstruct the Bush agenda, so they are also in a tenuous position.

I really see the average voter wanting to see the country's business be put first and foremost, and all the party bickering and fighting set aside. So, the coming election will be most likely a test of who can do the best job of setting aside partisanship and show a commitment toward restoring our country to a position of respected leadership on the world stage, as well as return to fiscal responsibility and start moving back to a balanced budget and reduced deficits.

I truly believe that the pork spending during a time of war and deficit spending is going to come back and bite many of these politicians of both parties in the ass.

Basically King George tried to have some suspected collaborators with Osama tried via Military Tribunal, instead of the proper way. I THINK that is the jist of it.

Well watching a few of the republican talking heads on TV from what I see Bush has lost their support. They are very vocal and it seems candid in their criticism of him.

Tucker Carlson made a comment about the Guantanomo issue, saying that if those imprisoned there are indeed supposed to be guilty of crimes why havent we charged them and why do we not actually hold trials.

It still seems that what has been turning the right against him is things like the Harriet Meyers nomination but not what most of America perceives as his shortcomings. Go figure.

Why exactly are ya'll railing against trying them in a military tribunal? Btw it looks as though the House and Senate will overrule the SC's decision.

Give these fucktards a public trial and you have all the creative ingrediants for a new martyr.

regardless of them being fucktards, there is a process in place for how they will be tried for their crimes. We can't override that any time we feel it wont be good press or may make a martyr as you put it. IF the House and Senate overrule that, in my opinion basically anything in the constitution is breakable, circumventable as long as we put the right media spin on it. Also, i do feel that the limo driver really maybe innocent and just been the wrong man working for the wrong guy. IF you check out some of the evidence, i can't help but wonder if they want to go with a tribunal because they are scared of their chances in normal court.
