Wow...just Wow!

I mean, you hear about things that change a game, but this is definately the first time I can honestly say that SOE has changed EQ for the BETTER in a BIG way!

No more time spent hollering LFG! No more having to pass up Red and Yellow mobs!

It's just unbelievable!

Would a Rogue be able to do any exp-ing with a Merc healer? Are they good enough at the class, or would they be drawing aggro and making a mess of things?

Just wondering if it is worth reinstalling and reactivating.

I'm not sure on rogues, definitely on some of the lower con mobs. The clerics actually heal well, but the newer mobs hit really hard.

rogues shift the aggro to the cleric, who can tank sub 80 stuff long enough for the rogue to kill it, with rogue dps (including poison) being as insane as it is.

I use merc cleric with my necro, that works like a charm.

lately though I started a Bezerker, and I opted for war merc instead. I am amazed that at lvl 45-50 I am able to zone into Velks and tear the place up with myself and merc war. I can remember the old days, pre luclin, that would take a solid group to hold some of those camps.

I am sure later levels, 60+ I'll have to drop the War merc for Cleric.

Heh, I was just wishing my cats used a door so I could try that. Dumb cats.

Are the mercs similar to the NPCs you could hire in Guild Wars?

I never played Guild Wars, but in this one, when you go to buy/rent one, there's an initial fee and then an upkeep fee that occurs every 15 minutes (unless you suspend your merc). The more you spend, the more uber they are, at least that's the way I understand it. With a merc tank, coupled with my necro pet, there's not many reds or yellows that even put up much of a fight.

I heard someone talking about how their Merc tank was fantastic in BoT! Man, THAT'S good value for your money LOL!

At 56 my merc tank was tanking pov with a merc healer. I was playing a mage and a friend a necro, and they have tanked bot, tactics, wos, and MPG while we were leveling.

Mercs are way overpowered up to about level 75, when they start losing their steam. by level 80, you want to upgrade to at least j3. At level 85, even a j5 tank barely cuts it. Which means clerics and tanks are boned going up levels until they hit the top, at which point they become highly demanded.

Two classes which have insane powers at level 85: wizards get twincast, and rangers get harmonious arrow.

Necros are no longer nearly as powerful as they once were, as rogues and wizards are now insane instant dps.

Haha at that last statement, only person who consitantly out DPS's me nightly is..another necro. No one can keep up 9kDPS for 12+ minutes but necros, I can also burst 16-17K DPS in 70 seconds..no melee in sight on that.

As well a merc healer will not be keeping a necro pet up on yellow-red con mobs at lvl 85. I can take down yellow-red con mobs with merc healer but I also have EM8 Focus, all pet AA's, toss in Block Rank 3, Pet Heal Rank 3...and just make it by. So in group gear, low AA, and non focused pet will go poof fast, and then your merc will be eaten, and your going to be FD.

use a max level merc cleric to duo with my ranger.

Works fantastic, now I can grind out aa's without kiting or having to wait on a healer to show up.

Hey, i'm not talking top geared folk, i'm talking average joe necro vs average joe wizard and rogue. Going up on the new server as a necro, the rogues consistently were making me drool with their dps, and at 85, the 500aa wizards can kill kyvs in bloodfields with group gear while i'm still working on the nocs and ukun at almost 900aa. f'ing twincast is on ogh faction so it's easy to get.

Of course, i still have to get my anguish bp and epic, so maybe that has something to do with it...

So say someone who has a 65 Enchanter they haven't touched in ages, how hard would it be to get a merc tank and cleric and do some leveling/aa grinding?

Binuven

Not hard at all, as long as you have the cash hehe.

It would be more like merc cleric or merc tank, can't have both. For chanter I would get the cleric and charm kill, probably level fast.

So far all I've used is the Tank. He heals up pretty good and can really take a pounding!

It's too bad shewdogg isn't around, I'm sure he'd definately come up with something totally inappropriate hehe.

so if i reactivated my druid, i could get a merc warrior and "solo"

Chanur

Yes to both of you.

Ibudin

As a druid, you can solo already with out the merc. I use a merc only to rez and buff myself and pet...but I to play a kite class predominately for exp.

As well, mercs just help jump the exp hunt off faster, I still prefer players over mercs 100 percent of the time, unless I want to camp a spot. Knock off 10 mobs, rest up and do things around the house repeat, then I dont want to bother with a real player cause I would be AFK most the time.
