With all the chatting on health care in a different thread I keep for getting to post what I originally came here for.....

Did anyone get to watch the whole Tyson fight.... it was a very entertaining fight. I have to admit I love to see "Iron" Mike get knocked out LOL

I didn't realize that Tyson is now 38 years old. Its hard to believe he had a 300 million empire and lost it all.....

Anyway, despite his losses over and over he has a huge fan base still. Probably because the heavy weight division sucks.

I was actually sad to see him lose this time. He has made a huge attempt to become a normal person again. He's become polite, respectful, apologetic. It's been an incredible transformation.

I saw the fight Saturday night. The thing that I took away from the fight was the observation that 'Iron Mike' is, apparently, still made of tissue paper psychologically. He was, at the time he was knocked down, winning solidly on points (all three judges had him 30-25 over Williams), and there were only a few seconds left in round 4. When the camera zoomed in on him sitting on the ground, he was not disoriented or badly hurt, but clearly lucid; he looked right at the camera, and apparently *decided* not to get back up prior to the count expiring (perhaps he mistimed it, but it seems unlikely). I didn't get to hear much of the commentary afterwards, as it was very noisy in the coffee bar I was in, but it seemed pretty apparent that Tyson was more mentally than physically devastated by the knockdown and just decided that he didn't want to fight anymore...

Mike Tyson has a *long* history of not dealing well with getting the tables turned on him during a fight. He had a devastating punch, which he relied on for a long time to get him through fights quickly, but never a good head for boxing. What a shame to see him go out like this, especially for the folks who had a stake in his rehabilitation...

Ok, now, I'll admit. I've only seen the highlights, and I've been listening to commentary, BUUUUUT, Nydia's observation about Mike's lack of desire to get back up is pretty dead-on. Mike could have beat the count. There is no doubt in my mind that he could have stood up if he wanted to.

It seems that Mikey realized the bottom line... He's still getting paid. Just a dozen or so more asswhippings and He'll be out of the 30million:rolleyes: red.

Uh, no, he won't. That plan is pretty much blown now. Promoters don't just hand out $30 million.

He has made a huge attempt to become a normal person again.

Exept that, every 62 minutes, he has a 1 in 4 chance of just completely wigging out.

With all that hype put on this comeback plan, and everyone so sure he took the KO on purpose; you have to think he's getting a ton of money for throwing it.

I got it. I have found Mikey's yellow brick road.
It's here in this "how to do"...

you have to think he's getting a ton of money for throwing it.That thought had occurred to me as well, but do you think he'd have the presence of mind to do do deliberately? Given his history, I'm more inclined to think that he just wimped out...

Getting a ton of money for throwing it? Compared to squeezing 2-3 more fights out of the twilight of his career? Nah...

Even if you're a conspiracy theorist, the rule is always "follow the money." There's more money in fighting a couple more fights - even against nobodies - for a cut of the PPV take.

I thought I saw that the odds were 13:2 against Williams. Hyping Tyson up to skew the odds and then throwing the fight might have been the smartest thing to do.

They were saying that Tyson was all screwed up when he was re-training. Back spasms and just plain oldness. The promoters could easily have had a plan B of throwing it and riding a ton of money on Williams, if they saw that Tyson wasn't going to be able to come back to his old self.

Certainly wouldn't be the first time something like that's happened in boxing, by a long shot.

well if that is true, you think Mikey could make it a little less obvious. Hell just flopping over and closing his eyes would have been better than just setting there looking at the man with the "yea i'm not getting up, im still getting paid" look on his face.
