I can see how easily this could be abused. Once they figure out how to send the currents from a distance, it could be a powerful weapon indeed. In the wrong hands, though, any weapon is frightening. I think an inherant fear in all people is to lose control of oneself.
Right now they can only control simple directional movements... but what if it was developed to a point where they could control your every action. A person could be turned into a virtual human-robot. If it can be controled remotely, then I'm sure a device could easily be programmed to send out the commands automatically.
Scary as that is, I am intrigued about the other uses for the technology that the article mentioned. Creating a more realistic feel in driving simulators (or flying simulators for that matter) would be awesome. Imagine pressing on the accellerator and having your body involuntarily press back in your seat as it does in real life... With the application of several technologies, including this one, we may be a on the virge of creating a video game experience that will finally begin to feel real.
