We all know what today is, and there isn't enough time available to discuss how much this person meant to African Americans, or to this country for that matter. As I hear his speeches again today I thought I would share his last speech.

Prophetic words... he died the next day.
Sad that such good people are taken from us at such a young age. :(

I digitized that very same footage just a few weeks ago at the national archives and even said to a co-worker "wonder if he knew he'd get shot the next day?"
Was that YouTube clip from BET News I wonder :)

I heard he knew he was going to die. If you know there is someone out there that is powerful and wants you dead there really is not much you can do. He must have been a big threat to them. I wonder if he was speaking to his assassins. He looked like he had to work very hard to hold it together at the very end of that speech if you ask me. Very sad...he was a man of great conviction and a big heart. He definitely died in the name of freedom.

But i find it a great twist of Irony of how they propelled him to a greatness that most likely would not have been achieved had he lived a long life and died of old age.
Another great lesson of history unlearned and ignored.
Be carefull of those you may martyr!

You cant ever say "most likely would not have been" ..for we all will never know. Maybe..just maybe he could have been our first African American president. hehehe

His relationships with inflammatory people would doom him in the politics of today.
Just a little sidenote. I'm currently taking a Civil Rights class at school, taught by Julian Bond (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Bond). He said that MLK knew that he was probably going to die, as did Malcom X and other Civil Rights leaders. If you have never heard of the Freedom Rides (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Freedom_rides) I highly suggest you read about them. These people were all prepared to die for their cause.
We also have to watch a series of movies called "Eyes on the Prize: America's Civil Rights Years". They are extremely well made and there is a lot of very powerful footage. There is a hosted torrent out there for anyone who is interested - you will not be dissapointed and you will have a much greater understanding of the Civil Rights Movement.
Also, something that most people don't know. MLK was killed in Memphis, Tennessee during a rally about labor unions - it had nothing to do with Civil Rights.
