Westboro Baptist Church sued (http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/F/FUNERAL_PROTESTS?SITE=FLPEJ&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT):
BALTIMORE (AP) -- A grieving father won a nearly $11 million verdict Wednesday against a fundamentalist Kansas church that pickets military funerals out of a belief that the war in Iraq is a punishment for the nation's tolerance of homosexuality.
Albert Snyder of York, Pa., sued the Westboro Baptist Church for unspecified damages after members demonstrated at the March 2006 funeral of his son, Lance Cpl. Matthew Snyder, who was killed in Iraq.Fred Phelps plans to appeal.

One would think that since I live in York, PA there would be more buzz here about this but not really that much is being said. I remember when the assholes came here to protest the funeral but this trial got minimal coverage by local news. That or I'm living under a rock. It's not even a "top story" on our local TV channel's website. Oh well.

Probably because it wasn't considered controversial enough to draw ratings, Fild.
Remember, it's the editor that determines the "newsworthiness" of a story.
And anyone that believes that the war in Iraq is punishment for America's tolerance for homosexuality, should be given a dig dose of Jim Jones's Kool-Aid....

I wonder what the age range of the church member population is. I want to know how many (if any) are elderly. Odds are if they are did they or a immediate family member serve in WWII or Korea. I want to know how many of the members that are from the Baby Boomer generation that served in Vietnam or after. If they are all young people what about their parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles that may have served. It is a shame as one radio person said here the young man gave his life so they could protest freely here in the US. I can understand if they want to picket in front of congress, a military installation, or some other government body. But to picket a funeral where a young man gave his life for his country is an outrage. All of those there should be enlisted and sent over to defuse IED's or strapped to the vehicles as armor to protect the men and women over there. I hope this bankrupts the church and I hope they all have their places picked out in their belief of what hell is. To those that have served Thank You to those Serving Thank You.

Some people have some wacky beliefs. How is a war in Iraq connected to homosexuality?
I mean at least the wackos on Bill Mahr that got kicked out last week could make a reasonable argument for their crazy beliefs.
