I have a Creative Nomad MuVo. I can only get it to hold 8 songs( I convertend mp3 to wma for compression).
My question is, does anyone know how I can get more music on there? I went to creatives site, but their data base was abslutley no help. Anyone got an idaea or 2?

Encode them at lower bitrates, or get a player with a higher storage capacity.

[Edit: If the root of your question is "Creative says I can fit X songs on this thing, but I can only fit Y songs on it, what's up with that?", bear in mind that the song count depends on the length of the songs and the bitrates they were encoded at. If Creative is saying you can fit X 3.5 minute songs encoded at 64Kbps on their device, and you're trying to fit 7 minute 128Kbps-encoded songs on it, you're not going to get anywhere near the quoted song count. (Yes, the 3.5 minute 64Kbps figure is something I pulled from oen of Creative's Muvo pages)]

Yeah, you need lower bitrates on the songs.
Or just a better mp3 player.

Using a 256mb JoS myself, and it's teh pwn.

This post is just an FYI- ‚Ë‚¦
Encoding MP3:
128 is said to be CD quality but thats bullshit
192 is good enough to be indistinguishable from a CD on headphones
320 is what I use for all my MP3. They are big files but played on a home stereo are indistinguishable from CDs.

Heh, I was gonna suggest an iPod, too, but I'm not sure he would want to hear that :)

As much as I hate Apple, I love my iPod.

My friend works for Apple and he says they have a terrible track record in relation to physical breakage. Specifically the headphone internal connection is lame and tends to break on the smaller models.

I'm a cheap bastard and payed 50 bucks for the Nomad. Also, I wanted something small and lightweight for use at the gym.
I realize that i need to encode the songs to smaller bitrates. The question is how do I do that?

That depends entirely on the application you used to encode them. Should be a setting for the bitrate somewhere in the settings for that application somewhere.

ok I found where to lower the bitrate. got it down to 64 so what once was a 5mb song is now a 2 mb. Is it possible to get em smaller?

Well I got it down to about a mb or less per song, encoded as an mp3 with a 32 bitrate. The songs sound like they were recorded on a cassette tape.....under water. But I can fit almost 60 songs on it.
Bottom line is that the Nomad is a shitty little mp3 player if you like to listen to more than 10 songs over and over wjile you work out :\

I think WMA's supposed to sound better at low bitrates than mp3. Might try that.
