Ok I'm starting a new thread b/c I have too many questions :)

I "think" when I copy shows over from my TiVo they are already in an MPEG2 format. What software do I use to squish them into DivX b/c they are a few GB a peice?

Is there a freeware app that will do this?

Anyone out there have a TiVo and use TiVo-ToGo to pull shows from your box to your PC?

If so, what format are they in?

How can I find out what format they are in?

I confess to my utter cluelessness about this stuff, I'm very far behind the curve with video and photo gadgetry. I want to compress these files b/c they are consuming my hard drives :(

Another option is to use AviSynth to pull out stuff from Tivo, frame by frame.

Cucusoft has a decent converter for mpeg2 to avi or vica versa. I don't know if it will work, but I use DVD Decrypter to un-encrypt a DVD .VOB to my harddrive, then I use autoGK to convert it to a DIVX and shrink it from 4-5gigs, to 500megs-1gig. Then I can transfer it to my PDA to watch at work.

DVD Decrypter and autoGK are free, Cucusofts converter is around 30$.
