- I wonder whether that'll mean very little indeed for the people of Pakistan. Even if a civilian is put back in the Presidential palace, I can't imagine it'll be long before a military coup repeats 1999.

I hope you're wrong, but I suspect Musharraf has been the salt keeping the water from boiling over.

heard about it this morning, wasn't really sure what to make of it. My line of thinking took me down a similar road as Halo's though, though I'd imagine the US might not get such a warm response.

It's pretty sad when Pakistan's government has more teeth than our own.

Explain?

Several of Kucinich's articles of impeachment included undeniable truths about Bush far worse than anything Nixon or Clinton ever did. Bush laughs as Pelosi roadblocks it.

Pakistan's government threatens impeachment and Musharraf knows he's done.

It's sad that Pakistan's checks and balances actually work, while ours are absolutely in shambles at this point.

Damn, I missed Bush's coup?

Because military dictators are typically afraid of their governments? Oh wait.

Was thinking the same thing. If Musharraf (sp) had been elected democratically to begin with, rather than seizing power, this would have a different slant to it. As a former military commander who seized power, the country actually was served fairly well in the big picture compared to the more frequent results of coups; however, his actions regarding the supreme court and judges and lawyers and the manner in which the presidential campaign and election (and assassination of Bhutto) went down had the country in such an agitated state it would have been impossible to remain without establishing martial law again.

I also expect the country to fall apart, with the assistance of the Taliban and AQ, and that there will be a military man in charge again within three years. Also, the conflict with India over Kashmir will not just disappear with the resignation of Musharraf, and that is a real potential powder keg.

Damn, I missed Bush's coup? You forgot the US Supreme Court decision in Bush v Gore.

Yup, didn't take long.

Fractious Coalition in Pakistan Breaks Apart (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/26/world/asia/26pstan.html?_r=2&hp&oref=slogin&oref=slogin)

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The five-month-old coalition government in Pakistan collapsed Monday when the head of the minority party, Nawaz Sharif, announced his members would leave the fractious alliance, citing broken promises by Asif Ali Zardari, the leader of the majority party.

Saudi Arabia has been threatening to cut off Pakistan's subsidies if they don't let Musharraf not only get off scott-free, but "leave with dignity." I suspect that the collapse of the coalition has about as much to do with that as the "now what do we do." Part of the coalition wants all the fired judges reinstated, and another part wants the PK Presidency reduced in power to just a figurehead, so that there can never be another Musharraf.

Technically our ally already no?

Tho tbh I've never been real fond of our rather messy interaction with them.

But, then who will try to steal our jobs for 1/10 the pay?

Illegal immigrants?

Sanchek

I haven't seen any illegals in IT (yet).

OMG, you mean you don't go down to the old Comp USA parking lot and pick your programmers for the day from the groups of illegal geeks that hang out there?

Funny enough, the CompUSA near my house was next to a Home Depot.

You still know where there's a Comp USA? That's still open?

Sanchek

No, they're all closed now.

I got my first Windows computer at a Comp USA, Windows95 with 8megs of ram that I upgraded to 16 megs along with my 1.2 gig hard drive, which the guy said I would never come close to filling.

Poor Tandy Corp. If it wasn't for RadioShack, I think they would have tanked by now.

And I do seem to recall a lot of "off shoring" that took place of IT jobs, although the thought of going to the CompUSA parking lot and picking up illegal programmers made me smile.

There are only 23 CompUSA stores left (http://www.compusa.com/retailstores/compusaStores/). Most in FL.
