Hundreds of residents across Orange County say they felt an eerie earthquake-like shaking at about 9:15 p.m. Tuesday that mostly moved doors and windows but not the rest of their homes. Some people — especially in south county — also reported hearing a loud boom. Many readers say they were alarmed because they thought someone was trying to break into their homes, especially since there seemed to be a second ”rattling” moments later.

Neat. Or, something.

Sounds like a military jet flying lower than he was supposed to at mach. It happens quite often at a USAF base.

Yeah, probably something like that.

Reminds me of those mfer helicopters always flying over my house, so low they rattle everything. God, I hate that.

Yeah I used to get this every now and then when I lived near Edwards.

My first thought as well, having experienced similar "phenomenon" while living close to the AFB near the Mpls-St Paul Airport in the late 50's/early 60's.

After some thought maybe the pilot didn't break the ceiling. Perhaps he didn't take into account pressure or elevation( if he's new to the area ).

Both could and do change the sonic barrier.
