I'm going to remove the requirement for downloading from the same IP address as you requested the episode as well as the one-try limit since you really can't pass a link to too many people in ten minutes. This doesn't mean I'm disabling the security mechanism. If it looks like you're abusing the system or accessing a link from, say, five different addresses in ten minutes, it's pretty obvious the link is being passed. If that's the case, the system will revoke your rights for two days.

Works fine on my Firefox atm, thanks for the link. Time for me to see what all the Naruto talk is all about, then put some episodes on my iRiver H320 for on-the-go viewing :D.

How many episodes are there in the whole series currently?

Rybit
04-12-2005, 05:51 PM
130 and counting :) It's one of Japan's most popular primetime shows. And luckily, Japan doesn't have this end of season thing where they torture you for months until the next season starts...

So on the 18th will 11-20 be available or ;)?

One question, because of the download restrictions, is it possible for me to 'Pause' the download (Firefox), then continue like 20 minutes later? Essentially would the 10-minute link thing affect this?

Rybit
04-12-2005, 11:02 PM
Hmmm, you make a good point :) I'll extend the time you can request links ten-minutes in between, but you will have twenty-four hours to download one.

Rybit
04-14-2005, 04:50 AM
Naruto 130 uploaded 1 hour after it was released by Dattebayo and Naruto 11-20 to be opened for downloading on Friday 12:00AM to the end of next Friday.

If someone can test to see if these downloads work with Reget and other download accelerators, I'll lift the 10-minute request wait period for him or her :)

I didn't care much for it at first, but I'm actually kinda getting into the story a little bit now. Though, watching 129, 1-20, then 130 kinda messed me up I think. Is 130 the latest one released?

Rybit
04-15-2005, 12:35 AM
Yeah, 130 is the latest one. Watching 129-130 and 1-20 won't spoil the story entirely; in fact, for those of you watching it out of order might understand why Sasuke is who he is. A new episode of the series comes out every Tuesday evening at 7:27 PM Japan Standard Time.

To those new to the series, the beginning episodes may seem a bit childish and may seem like just another "ninja story," but it's really a very well-told story of Shinobis. It makes Inuyasha seem like Pokemon (alright, maybe I overstate!).

Rybit
04-15-2005, 09:34 AM
Version 1.01 Changes:

* Finally supports bytesending, so those of you who would like queue these up on a download manager, feel free to do so. This is the primary highlight. I've tested this two times myself, but I'm not confident of this feature yet. I wrote a custom Java class for a byte server because ColdFusion does not natively support this.

* Download link expires in 24 hours.

Are there any plans to replace the Dattebayo episodes with AonE ones once they have been released?
IZIN what does that mean?

Izin
04-16-2005, 07:37 PM
They are both fansub groups that sub Naruto - Dattebayo releases are generally about speed, while AonE focus more on quality. Was just wondering if once the higher quality AonE release was out, if it would replace the quicker, lower quality Dattebayo version.

Cados Evilsbane
04-16-2005, 07:39 PM
Quality as in bitrate, file size, and/or resolution, or what? For anime I probably wouldn't notice a difference personally.

Izin
04-16-2005, 07:42 PM
Translation for the most part.

Rybit
04-16-2005, 08:12 PM
Yeah - AonE hasn't released any episodes recently, as they just suffered a server crash on GotWoot. I've been thinking about doing a translation job for one of the fansub groups, but I just don't have time anymore.

DiscW

Man, after watching these, I never realized how crappy the anbu translations were. I have the first 50 or so episodes which toriyama's world did, and they are much less.. awkward. Sucks that they stopped after that. :(

And the storyline definetly gets more interesting from the early 20's on. In the Chuunin exam you get to learn more about each of the main characters, the rest of the konoha genins(rookies) get introduced *points to sig*, and you get to meet 1 of the series' main villians. And it climaxes with some of the best fights in the anime to date. (48-51 still give me goosebumps, heh)

Though, the zabuza arc is still my favorite overall story arc in the anime. It's a very good intro to the series once you get past the silliness of the first few episodes. The style of villians with a back-story explaining their actions, and flashbacks during fights both continue through the series. It seemed the author was still getting his bearings on what to do and not to do in the first few. You never see that crystal ball again for example.

Rybit
04-16-2005, 10:03 PM
Personally, I get annoyed at ANBU for saying "ninja" instead of Shinobi in some areas. I'm fairly fluent in Japanese, and these minor differences do kinda irk me. Anyway, episodes 127-129 from AonE available for downloading now :)

Rybit

They'll say -- check under Producer. I download primarily AonE, but I upload Dattebayo for those who want to get the episodes hot off the iron.

The 1-20 ones should be AonE. Dattebayo has not released 1-20.

4KIDS ENTERTAINMENT ACQUIRES NARUTO; PROMISES THOROUGH IMPROVEMENTS

For IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NEW YORK, N.Y. (May 9, 2004) - 4Kids Entertainment Inc. today announced the acquisition of the anime Naruto, based on the manga by Masashi Kishimoto and published in Shounen Jump. It is a story about a young ninja forsaken by his fellow practitioners in ninjitsu, trying to rise through ranks to be the best in his village. However, 4Kids knows that quality translated Japanese animation is not what people want these days, and has instead opted for a more universal and Americanized version known as "Darrell's Kickboxing Adventure!" It focuses on Darrell's journey to be the best in the ancient and powerful art of Taebo, and it is filled with many life-encouraging lessons for today's youth.

The Story

Darrell, an orphan raised in the streets of New York City, has his life changed forever when he journeys into Central Park's homeless district and discovers Granpappie's Youth Center for Taebo Excellence. Founded by Mr. T in 1981, this youth center has been training kids in the fine art of Taebo ever since by fellow once-homeless Taebo artists. However, Central Park is also home to many nefarious hoodlums and ruffians that only seek the demise of such a wonderful and family-friendly establishment. To protect the youth center, Grandpappie (who took over once Mr. T left to form other such upstanding bastions for young childrens) formed the Taebo Tactical Team to defend against whatever may come their way. Surprisingly, he choose Darrell for such a task, along with his friends Sammy and Katie, and they are chaperoned by the courageous Lil' Dip. But with the dangers of thug crime on the rise, will the team succeed in their mission, or will Granpappie's Youth Center for Taebo Excellence fall into disarray like so many after-school specials?

The Characters

Darrell (Naruto): A practical joker since he was born, Darrell is always trying to perfect his Taebo technique to enhance his latest gag. And while the other homeless in Central Park look down on him for having fun rather than strict Taebo discipline, they do appreciate his energetic tendencies. Granpappie hopes that one day Darrell will use his power for good (instead of pranks), and that he will become a formidable Taebo black-shiny headband master.

Grandpapppie (Hokage): He was once an old military man like his former compatriot Mr. T, but due to a random chicken massacre, he had to retire abruptly. Saddened by the fact he wasn't able to get his Taebo Introduction Plan approved by the Army, he went into isolation in Central Park, and began to teach the mystical art to his fellow housing-disabled people. Mr. T soon learned of the plan, and if that didn't sound like the prefect place to set up a youth center, he didn't know what did! So in a matter of days, Grandpappie and Mr. T forged the grandest site they had seen that week: Granpappie's Youth Center for Taebo Excellence.

Irwin (Iruka): As Darrell's "tutor", Irwin shares a "special" relationship with Darrell, built upon "love", "Taebo", and other such "words" that don't sound too "clean" when put in "quotations". As an orphan who learned many "lessons" down in the burly alleyways of "Brooklyn", Irwin learned about the importance of "sharing", which was only "reinforced" by the teachings of Taebo. He understands Darrell's rejection from the other homeless very well, and he tries to "comfort" him the best that he can.

Sammy (Sasuke): Always the dark and brooding type, he is both Darrell's rival and partner in the Taebo Tactical Team. He uses the Carbon Copy Taebo technique, which allows him to use others' techniques just by watching them. A natural pimp, his innate coolness makes all the girls' hearts aflutter, which infuriates Darrell to no end. He is constantly jealous of the Carbon Copyist, and Sammy doesn't feel that nice towards Darrell either.

Katie (Sakura): A real go-getter, she rounds out the Taebo Tactical Team, and provides the much-needed intelligence to go with Darrell's gusto and Sammy's gloominess. She's very smart, and is always focused on studying even you don't realize it. However, even she has a dark side when you get too close (so watch out, or better yet, tune in!). She, as well as most of the female Taeboists, likes Sammy and tries to impress him. Darrell, however, does not approve of this.

Lil' Dip (Kakashi): Half-Hispanic and Half-African American, this affirmatively minority character is the son of Dipcardo and Yom (maiden name Amma) Rodriguez (Lil' Dip being the Jr.). Raised in the South Bronx, Dip Jr. found his love for both Taebo and Salsa music at an early age, along with his fascination for hip-hop. As he grew up and trained among the best Taebo masters, he eventually found out about the youth center. Eager to train such promising youths in both the ways of Taebo AND Ricky Martin, he signed up as a teacher. He is always studying up on the latest Taebo techniques, as evidenced by his head being constantly stuck in new Taebo texts (with the occasional Salsa dance review). He is also know for his infamous Laaaaay-Zee Eye, which can copy a person's technique perfectly, even while they are using it (it also works on dance styles)! With it, he has mastered over 1000 different Taebo and Salsa techniques. He now heads up the Taebo Tactical Tea, as head chaperone.

Family-Friendly

Of course, being set in the wilds of New York's Central Park and learning towards the homeless that dwell therein might worry some parents, but they "shouldn't worry one bit!" says Ali Babba, 4kids Fictional Localization Director. "We have a fool-proof plan to keep kids from trying to learn Taebo from random homeless people, which involves having text before and after the show, as well as helpful tips at the end of the show. We call it 'Darrell Says'. We think it's very hip, original, and informative!" The text that will run before the show says, "Remember kids! Only those well trained in the ancient and mystical art of Taebo can talk to the homeless, for they are dangerous and stinky." Episodes end with: "While becoming a Taebo Master is fun and rewarding, make that you seek local experts before trying these techniques at home!" and a list of some Taebo websites.

Ali Babba is very proud of the "improvements" that they've made to the show and thinks it will sit along very well along with the other shows they improved, Shaman King and Hollywood Mew Mew. "Heck, not only will you not realize the show was Japanese," Babba chortles, "you won't even realize the show was any good!" So go get ready for Darrell's Kickboxing Adventure! and don't miss a beat every episode!

I've been thinking about that. I'll probably buy an external hard drive in the future for other stuff we might host. Download Schedule

Naruto 1 - Current will always be available until further notice

Full Metal Alchemist 1 - 26 will be available during May 9; 27 - 52 two weeks later.

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 1st Gig will be available after Full Metal Alchemist is complete; will replace FMA. 2nd Gig episodes available a week after.

Also considering adding The Sopranos.

Samurai Champloo maybe.

Bleach available soon.

Taking some requests for non-anime stuff. But they will be limited since I want to avoid turning this site into an illegal distribution network! (Believe it or not!) Usually we'll backtrack for a few seasons, and once everyone has caught up, we'll only distribute the newest episode.

Quotas will be increased to 60 episodes during special distribution weeks.

Oh yeah, and thanks yet again for this great service! Any chance of seeing some Bleach uploaded though?

Rybit
04-28-2005, 07:08 AM
Yeah, I'll be getting Bleach on soon! Once the new hard disk gets to the datacenter, I'll get the episodes on the disk. Naruto 51-90 tomorrow.

If you ask nicely, and you reach your 30-episode quota, ask me or one of the mods to reset it. We'll be happy to accomodate as long as you don't abuse bandwidth.

What the hell, I'm going to add GitS tomorrow on the download manager tomorrow because it's already on the server! Quotas will be set to 60 when GitS is added to the database. Ghost in the Shell: SAC 1st Gig will be available for a week and a half. Then most of 2nd GiG (new episodes will be available on a weekly basis). Then I'll delete all of GiG so I can make room for Bleach

Hey how do you convert stuff from TiVo format to DivX? I assume there is a tool of some sort, is it free or is there a cost?

Rybit
04-28-2005, 12:27 PM
Fildien, the 2nd Gig has an amazing storyline. The first gig's plot is still pretty good; I really liked the Laughing Man story arc and how it turned into a case of corporate graft and deception.

I believe stuff on Tivo is encoded with MPEG-2. You can burn the stuff on DivX to a DVD and decompose the stuff with some sort of DVD ripping software. Divx also has a piece of software called "Dr. Divx." You should be able to use that to accomplish your goals.

32 is fixed. Thanks for alerting me!

After waiting so long for the movie, it was pretty 'meh'. The animation was great.. but the fights were disapointing. Fights in the series usually last at least half an episode, to 3 or 4 episodes so we're used to longer fights. But 3 of the 4 main villians that were built up as baddass got killed in maybe 3-4 moves each. And the final fight was 10ish? minutes or less, with half being flash backs. It just seemed like they were rushing through as fast as they could. Now I go watch this episode.

Hey Ryb, have you been able to get a hold of the Konoha Sports special that was omitted from the DB release of the Naruto Movie? I can't remember its exact name and I've heard that it's quite horribly bad (hence the omition), but it'd be nice to watch all the same.

Blyst, go to http://64.182.56.16/episodes/eps/naruto/ and you can get episodes 112+

Only thing is they are in .RMVB format, so you will need to download Real Media Player (I know, cringe) or Real Alternative.

Their not high quality like Rybit's, but if your like me and can't wait to see what happens after 111, then check them out :)

I'm downloading 101-125 and 136/137 right now. I'll try to get that updated as soon as my downloads finish and I can get them up to the server (assuming I can figure out how to update Ryb's app).

136 and 137 should be up now. Let me know if you have any trouble with them. I haven't tried adding episodes to the database before.

To Admins:

I have a Powervault SCSI Array that is just sitting in my floor collecting dust. I was curious if you could use it for the download service? Right now it has, I believe, 8 30GB WD SCSI HDD's in it. When I took it offline it was fully functional and has been kept in the datacenter ever since. I honestly have no use for it and if I cant find something productive to do with it im going to throw it in the garbage. Let me know if this would be of interest to you.

Also, I have one poweredge server as well. Dual PII 450's and 3 8GB WD SCSI drives in it. One 10/100 nic and one 1/100/1000 nic as well. I think it has 512MB of ram and some other features but nothing fancy. It worked fine when it was removed from production as well. If you could use that too let me know. Otherwise it will have the same fate as the Powervault.

Of course if you want it...you pay to ship it.

Thanks,
Shep

I'd suggest sending Rybit a PM about this specifically. He deals with the actual hardware. I know we've been running low on RAID storage due to the media stuff. That array definitely might be something we could use, if it'll integrate into our current setup.

Either way, thanks for the offer.

I have a similar quantity of "old" (by l33t gamer standards) hardware as well. Let me know if the site needs something. Plenty of stuff gets thrown away from CHW too.

Thanks for the Info I sent Rybit a PM and just copied the post. Hopefully you can take it off my hands. I hate to see good hardware go to waste but I've got to get this place cleaned out to make room to store "older" hardware that I am changing out.

Thanks,
Shep
