Try Virtualdub. Free. Google for it.
(For converting DVDs to useful files use DVD Decrypter.)

Virtualdub is good.
DVDlab and a few others have a trial period where they are fully useable.
Most of my work is spent converting PAL to NTSC but there are alot of authoring programs out there to help you change formats.

You can use Nero Vision Express too, usually a free trial so you'd have to uninstall and reinstall every other month or so, if you didnt want to buy it. But it works great, you can strip them down to just the MPEG2s or convert them to a DVD, or Strip em down, then encode them to nero digital mpeg 4s.. etc etc. I use it, and Pocket DIVx to shrink em all down to size for my PDA, but you can make em big enough they look good on a TV.

I played with a lot of things to convert MSDVR files. I ended up using WinAVI.
MSDVR isn't recognized by most of the programs you suggested. The VirtuaDub route is long.

Sort of kinda on the same topic. Graphics anyway. OK, I was too lazy to start a new topic.
What are your favorite programs for manipulating (rotating, shrinking) and removing redeye from digital pics? PaintShop Pro? Something like that?
I have a program that came with my old Elph that fixes redeye, but all it really does is replace the redeye with a light gray eye.
We tested a few prints using hte machine at Walgreens, and they came out great (the eyes were the right shade of blue and everything). But it'd be nice to do this at home.

With the exception of red-eye reduction, my favorit cut-paste-crop-resize-resample program is Irfanview (http://www.irfanview.com/), which I use for picture viewing as well. 90% of my picture manipulation is just resize/rescale and crop/convert-format. Irfanview is great for that.

Photoshop CS2 has a decent red eye tool.

It might be a codec issue. I had that problem with Windows Movie Maker (bite me) until I ditched all my installed codecs and reinstalled only what I really needed at the time.

Prolly, I think it might be something with not liking 64 bit windows, and I've just been too lazy to install it on my other box

It is always those PEBKAC errors that'll get ya, now how do you troubleshoot them?

Shoot the user. Eliminate the variable.
