Perhaps you are basing your opinions and "observations" upon your own experiences with life and EverQuest. I do get in my vehicle and go see my friends, every weekend. I do have a life outside of EQ. From your comments, it would seem that you didn't, or perhaps you had a spouse/significant other who left you because of your addiction to EQ. Either way, to set your mind at ease, I do see my friends and family.

I have heard stories about guild leaders who claim uber loot for the "guild" and then wind up using it on one of their toons.
