Howdy folks

I'm just curious. Since votes were cast a little while ago, there has been a LOT of goings on in the MMO community.

Since the last poll, EA has confirmed a merger with Mythic (will be known as EA Mythic), Vanguard SOH is now being published by SOE, no longer with Microsoft. Age of Conan still remains as it was as far as developers and scope. All of these games have been releasing updates at various increments along the way.

Tell us what you think!

Age Of Conan is now part of Microsoft am I right? Which means that theres a good chance that the mmo will becoming out for the xbox 360? I still think Vanguard did a smart move when they left microsoft to keep control.

Nope, it is not a part of Microsoft. It is still Funcom owned and developed. It is only being geared towards being one of the games that will be "Vista" ready.

Vanguard still has my attention, but these days I don't know if I really want to invest time in a new game or not. Exploring some of the current games on the market has been holding my attention lately, namely EVE.

Hehe, the only things keeping me away from EVE right now is the fact that it's so hard to get started, and if someone decided to be a real jerk, they could cost you sooooo much time and money, it'd not be worth it.

Tabula Rasa and Vanguard will be two that I try.

Not playing EQII anymore?

Oh yes I still play EQ2 quite a bit. But I don't limit myself to one game b/c I get so damn bored. I have like gaming A D D :( I am playing EQ2, Planetside, and games on my 360 when I get tired of sitting in front of my PC.

I voted Vanguard because I'd really like to play it. Though in all honesty I should have posted EQ because I dont' have time to level up a character with my new job and my family life. Raiding 5-6 nights a week after getting family stuff done keeps me more than busy, and with how they are planning Vanguard, that won't be enough time for me to be 'uber.' After having a strong character in EQ for years, it's not so much fun playing pitiful characters in new games.

With so much still to do (Anguish, Tacvi, DoN dragons, DoD, PoR) and now a new expansion in the offing with a new race (and another damn grind to 75), I will still be hanging with most of my attention being sponged up by EQ. Will most likely have a look at Vanguard when it launches, but am not overly optimistic about anything I am seeing just now.

And, the Combine server has been offering me some fun in those times of boredom......:p

My guild is one kill away from Deathknell, so I feel ya Byl.

EQ 4ever BABY!

Although, had they made content slightly harder to beat or came out with it more quickly, DDO would have been my choice.

But come on. When your guild beats the 'mighty red dragon' the third day of release and has all the new expansion chests ransacked in a week, that's got to tell you something.

*Oh, edit* Pre-nerf Threnal south FTW!

I don't see any of these games really overtaking WoW:Burning Crusade. It'll add the world pvp the pvpers wanted, the raid content pvers wanted, and a lot more content - which is basically needed accross the boards.

My big beef with all of them is the problem with realistic graphics, is they're never 100% realistic. The first Everquest everything looked a little silly - but that was ok. You bought it, since the whole world looked silly. In the new generation games, any time something only looks 90% lifelike, the other 10% stands out dramatically.

My life's biggest disappointment was SWG. I didn't even try it, just heard how poorly it was all implemented. Space age games make up such a large portion of the video game market, but just can't be done right in the MMORPG genre it looks like - but mostly because only a few select companies have tried.

Im playing SWG right now and I can tell ya the only people who are bitching about it, is the hardcore people who get ripped off at the way beginning, they wont give up on there slandering work, going to many many boards and continually saying the game sucks, So far I am having fun playing it , its a good solo game to play when you are bored considering you can do most quests by yourself and leveling is pretty fast. I got a level 30 jedi in about one weekend.

If you really wanted to try it nows actually the best time to do it, just pay the first months fee of 15 bucks and you will have access to the swg starter kit, so if ya can afford to waste 15 bucks for one month, check it out yourself.

Yeah, nothing is going to threaten WoW for some time. These games like Conan just look cheesy, and Vanguard is turning out to be a complete pile of garbage (reminds me of DDO).

The Uncanny Valley (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncanny_Valley).

I'm the same way. I'd much rather have fluid, cartoonish graphics than poor attempts as realism. When you go for the EQ2/VG look, you have to get it 100% perfect or it looks terrible.

LOL and I like the graphics that look mostly real and hate cartoonish ones. It's just a preference I guess, much like the game mechanics itself :D.

In general, research has found that those near-realistic graphics unsettle most people on a level that goes deeper than their preference in game mechanics. That's the uncanny valley effect.

Dido I like the realistic look then cartoony.

Have you checked out the new renders on Age of Conan?!?!?

The videos are pre-beta and in my opinion look pretty damn good for an MMO.

Needless to say, it's a case of each their own, with the games success speaking for themselves. It's going to be interesting around Q4 06/Q1 07.

LOL, I wish I was!

I'm actually in the process of creating a website called www.mmonut.com (http://www.mmonut.com) .

I'm still playing with the design, nothing has really "felt" right yet, so as soon as I get something going, I'll let you all know.

As the title says, I'm nuts about MMO's hehe. :D

To be honest, I'm done with MMORPGs. I've derived more fun from playing a GameCube, 360, and the like. It's just not my style anymore and nothing new these days have become as entertaining as what EQ was. It just seems like the computer gaming industry as a whole is suffering from an atrophy of creativity.

Im most interested Vanguard and Warhammer to be honest. Im really hoping Warhammer will be a good pvp/pve game. Also I personally think Warhammer has the most colorful history of any game around. I just hope Mythic doesnt screw it up.

Can't wait, my guild got flagged for deathknell last night. From what I hear, the 4 raid events in the zone only take a couple weeks to nail down, so within a couple weeks, I should be killing Ayonae Ro! Death to you all!!!

Binuven

Bah! Go toot on your skin flute you blue flute fairy!! :p

/sigh

Aoneiel and the rest of the short bus crew used to call me that....

I miss those days. I've not met friends in any game like I've met through EQ. If any of the new games can capture that sense of community coupled with Awe and Wonder, it's got my money.

I'm trying to be objective, so though AoC has my interest, I'm not afraid to eat humble pie should Vanguard prove to be infact the spiritual successor to EQ1.

Warhammer Online looks GREAT! But I keep getting the feeling of WoW V.2.0 from it. I'm pretty sure I'm wrong, but I can always hope there will be a beta app somewhere, and hopefully I can truly give it a test and prove myself wrong for sure.

As I posted elsewhere, I'm kinda getting back to my roots in Island of Kesmai for the moment. Need this kind of game where I'm a noob and not all committed to raids and stuff.
