Creating an iksar was acually a pain, you didnt have PoP, druids/wizzys never came to Cabilis, you were on your own..

Corpse Looting at lvl 1.. *cringe* remember that erudite wizzy that you forgot to bind then gets killed in gfay..

NPC's that dont pick up the loot you left on the ground to be picked up by your lvl 1 warrior

Giving Bats armor so then your newb can kill the bat and loot it..

I used to think that those messages were zone only. Then one day one of my friends (Fulgore from CT if anyone remembers him) was in a duel and won and I was in EK and saw the message. I did a /who all on him and he was in PoF. From then till probably 20 levels later I thought that PoF was right above EK and was actually part of the zone somehow. /sigh

Dorn B'dynn was the nastiest mofo there was! People would be screaming dorn is out, who fn trained dorn, etc all day in nro! Hell I used to instantly start running anytime I saw a dark elf in leather headed my way, only to realize later it was a pc. ;)

East Karana had no mobs/npcs at all.

There were no maps of the zones so people had to roam for an hour to find thier way thru the karanas on the very hard trip between Freeport and Qeynos.

Mobs used to attack you on boats and your corpse would sink to the bottom of the ocean.

Gnolls in Splitpaw and Blackburrow would stop chasing people and freezeframe when everyone agroed jumped into water.

Lockjaw would rack up kills for hours and hours on end.

The smart people in oasis didnt face the center of the zone, they watched the beaches for the jogging Sand Giants.

Having a magical weapon off the Gypsies in Oasis and North Karana were considered uber!

The Bone Bladed Claymore from Befallen was the weapon every Sk/Pally wanted!

Warriors and rogues sucked and everyone made Paladins instead.

Falling thru the hole into the lowest level of Befallen meant you lost your corpse since no one could get it back.

Scorpia was training griffons in ecom into the tunnel during the 100+ bazaar events.

People freaked out after seeing bronze armor for the first time.

Banded armor didnt exist, people had to pay 100+pp for chain armor!

The guise of the deciever was instant cast.

There was no level limit to the planes and level 1 monks and shamans had full planar armor.

No one did live side of lguk and dead side would wipe out and we would be the only ones left in the zone since we were on live. Oh how manastones changed that. We thought manastones sucked at first when we found them. We were happier to get the EE bags.

Shadowed Souls used to host a Lottery in Ecom once a month. The line was 100+ people line to buy tickets. That was some fun stuff, wish they still did that.

Rubicite Armor was monk usable.

Treant Fists had unlimited instant cast complete heal.

Bringing my computer into work to play beta on the graveyard shift and my boss getting addicted to the game resulting in him playing half the time on my computer and me the other half. :p

Something like that atleast. We thought we were SOOOO badass. I was killed so fast I didn't even get any melee or spell text. Just blammo dead.

The three best things I can think of that date my EQ game playing are; The Sea serpent in Lake Rathe that was there until beta 3, Looting Jboots in Najeena, and looting a manastone in Guk back when it took 2 and a half groups to kill the EE.

So many memories. My favorite memory is dinging Terhas into level 10. Someone had trained an icy orc to permafrost just as we were leaving a failed mini raid into Perma. I dinged 10 unconscious on the floor bleeding to death. If it wasnt for bandages I would have died.

Oddly enough to this date, probably my proudest accomplishment was making an entire set of PW armor for myself.

Who remembers the Aqua Gobby Shaman pets in Oasis. Man that was some badass XP!

Aye, I always ran through Kithicor no matter what. But at the 3rd try where I actually wanted to show how uber and holy I am, an undead cleric something rooted and nuked me for 300HP.
That was so bad. So so bad. I mean.. a 300HP nuke! Holy hell!!!!

- I also remember yelling at those damn Guards in EC for KSing me all the time.
- Befallen was the shit that scared me to death.
- The first time I saw a griffon I ran for my life.. and ran and ran...
- Turned /auc off since I had no damn clue what those ppl are talking about.
- Spent 5 hours trying to get a lvl2 char from Halas to Freeport, since all the guild was bound in Freeport and so everyone HAD to be there in any way.
- See how two guildies made a Human Druid and Wizard and they started in Qeynos. It took them 3 hours to get to Freeport. But the amazing thing is... they made it. They were level 3.
- I camped Frenzy for 34 hours straight and didn't get to see one FBSS.
- Having to Alpha loot Fine steel weapons and also having huge fights and flames all over if someone ninjaed Fine Steel off our Derv Camp in WC.
- High Hold Keep and High Pass are THE exp shit! THere were miles long lists for the Orc camp. Only list that ever was longer was Frenzy.

And the best...

- I told all my friends to start Half Elf Paladins since they rock (well just cause I picked it) and because we need all to be the same race and class so we work together well. I actually posted this on our old Teamforum (the Jokers used to be a Tanarus Team). So Ytrok, Gleam and I (actually Vibes, Leeloo and Tainojoker) leveled our HEF PALs. At level 30 Ytrok gave up and started his Chanter, at level 35 Gleam gave up and made her Rogue. Only Taino didn't get it till today.

I remember my first barb warrior, I used to auction rusty weapons, and people would KS me for the decaying skeleton that carried a rusty weapon.

- First time leaving everfrost into blackburrow and somone yelled train, I actually thought a train of some sort (vehicle) was coming and people transported that way.

- First train that I encountered in black burrow, there was about 6 gnolls and 5 PC's, we all were fighting the gnolls and in the process they invited me into guild lol.

- First time seeing a monk practice FD, I yelled at the guy next to her telling him to stop hitting her LOL.

/r used to be the only reply command, you couldn't hit r and get /tell soandso, you just did /r <message> and it went to the last person to send you a tell... Occasionally you'd get some really juicy gossip =)

Zoning underwater in the karana's would send you to the safe spot in the zone. Thus, you could run from HP to Qeynos in about 5 minutes (intead of the 15 it would take otherwise without SoW). (yeah, I'm an exploiter...we /petitioned the bug (before the bug verb) and were told it was working as intended...So see, there's times that lame answer is actually useful).

You could do this with luclin as well. You can't with PoP though. You get 100% regular xp and your AA bar starts doing funky shit. I got 70% AA once for killing a single mob. 8/

Yeah... I remember that... and how everyone always asked why I didn't make a last name. I don't really remember why I decided not to make one, but eventually it became a part of who Akom is, so I never made one.

Actually... I can't think of any mobs in game that can drop up to 40pp and a FS weapon other than HGs. Espescially not at that level. You go into RM and HGs are STILL always camped to death (I went there with my bard the other day thinking I could make some cash and exp.. heh).

LoL... I don't even remember who it was that told me that if I nuked animals they would drop higher quality pelts (woot HQ Bear pelt! UBER!), probably the same person who told me that if I killed too many bears and wolves as a druid I wouldn't get my SoW spell when I hit level 14...

I remember sitting outside of Fear at low 50s naked because we had failed a break in, then asking for help from one of the super-guilds on the server and how impressed we all were at the ease they killed everything heh.

Later, camping my own aegis of life, and being ubber because i was in full ro with a soulfire and FBSS (and i mean UBBER!!)

I think they nerfed the drops on the HGs because they don't drop 40pp as often anymore. Usually it's like 2pp 2pp, 3gp, then 25pp...But I haven't been there in a bit so maybe it's been un-nerfed again?

Anyway, one gem drop in Seb = better than HGs and one drop in tier 2, tier 3 - even just crappy vendor stuff - = better than HGs. Tier 1 doesn't have any loot pretty much heh. PoI ain't that bad but most of it's no drop stuff.

However for the lvl range of HGs it's still pretty good loot. Though, whenever I need cash I just whore out chanter KEI. :p

Collecting dozens of greater lightstones, and spending hours running between WC and NK to do the concordance of research quest, because it was good xp and cash. Then getting killed by a griffon while doing the turn in.

Chasing anything with a stick, in case it was a cracked staff, because they sold for over 1pp, then being disappointed when it was a worn great staff.

Lending someone some pp, and having them try to pay me back in fish, because it took days to make any actual cash.

Farming or buying greater lightstones at 5p each, running to South Ro after several backpacks full, then handing them in for Ph4t XP and a tome worth 10p.

Low end silver jewelry actually SOLD. And that gold and platnium stuff? UBER!

Banded was the next best thing to a suit of bronze armor...

Bronze was BLUE!

Boats were so glitchy, that half the time you wouldn't make it to your destination....

You would fall through the lifts in Kelethin.

Necros was nr1 in the LFM list, was the only class that could solo Lord in LGuK easy...

I was checking out the last couple pages and found this. Fun to remember the good ole days.

Too bad we can never have them back =/. What I wouldn't give to go back to the way it was... back when there wasn't a bizillion different items in the game and "uber" items wern't run of the mill.

But even if they made an "old school" server, it still wouldn't be the same. I think thats what keeps drawing me to new MMORPGs... SWG, Horizons, and now Lineage 2... its that everyone is new to the game and as people start leveling up and gaining new equiptment / skills you truely are amazed.

That is one reason that I really disagree with massive beta testing prior to release. I mean, by the time WoW comes out, there will be people who have been playing it for over a year (Alpha). Their game experience will already be ruined, and they will have the advantage of knowing exactly where to hunt and what to do... therefore, instead of being duely impressed when you see a high level person with awesome items, you're just mad that they know all the secrets. It takes something away from the whole experience.

My first EQ live memory was that first week the game went live, I was a freshman in college. I remember one night during that week the servers were stable enough for me to start exping for a while. I remember looking over and seeing that it was like 3am and thinknig "well damn, I better go to sleep so I can get up and make it to class". Then I remember looking over and seeing that the sun had come up and thinking "well damn, I better go to class". Then I remember looking over and seeing that it was noon and thinking "well damn, I'm tired now, I better get to sleep so I can play EQ tonight." Shit...if only I had known then what I was in for.

I remember Ledora staying up forever to get jboots in Najena and I thought "wow, that's retarded" (this was before I was addicted hardcore).

I remember (not much later, heh) staying up for something retarded like 30 hours straight camping skellies in South Karana waiting for that damn Lord Grimrot to spawn so I could finish my Aegis of Life quest. Finally I started sleeping in 2 hour shifts so I could wake up and kill the PH. I can't thank Saelaara enough for putting up with me that weekend.

I remember my first Naggy and Vox raids.

I remember getting the hell off of Karana.

I remember camping with Ledora to get the Staff of Al'Kabor. She wanted it so bad and ended up getting it (though I admit, GM events were done so retardedly...wuwu for being the first to notice the GMs started the script in Great Divide and talk to them).

But mostly, I remember having a blast playing this intriguing game and making tons of friends (and enemies :hat ) along the way. It was scary and exciting up through Velious, it was interesting and fun in Luclin, and it became tiring and no longer novel during Planes of Power. I admit, I probably burnt myself out trying to become 2nd on the server with 1750 tradeskills (Jesus, who could compete with Kilzadi, haha).

Dorn B'dynn was the nastiest mofo there was! People would be screaming dorn is out, who fn trained dorn, etc all day in nro! Hell I used to instantly start running anytime I saw a dark elf in leather headed my way, only to realize later it was a pc.

A friend of mine deleted his lvl 16 cleric to get the name for his bard and we all thought he was retarded cause it was such a highlvl char..

Oh and I remember how impressed i was while running around on my first rogue in neriak and i met another rogue with a.. damn what's the name again.. skull fanged something or another that stopped dropping long ago.
Oh yeah another one, thinking that the coolest thing ever was a rogue in silverplated leggings, herobracers, crescent helm(?), burning rapier and eyerazzia combo and the rest ravenscale.. and thinking that I'd never be high enough lvl to get all that cool gear :p

All my other colleagues (rogues) telling me how stupid i was for creating a human rogue. This was back in 99 when being a "true" rogue meant you were a halfling, half elf, or barb. To them, humans were bottom barrel, so i made a Eru sk....got another bashing for that. So i went back to the rogue and i can say i had a pretty illustrious career as a rogue. Thank God for Drizzen, whom i could always point to and say "yea, well look at him". Not to mention that i put all my starting points into agi, and dex, which was unheard of. All rogues started with all points going into str.

Needless to say, i was always second best (race wise) for human rogues and spent my life in the shadows (the irony). My only claim to fame was that i was second human to be an assassin from Karana server. That's about the extent of my work.

Still doesnt negate the abuse i took for it tho (tear).

So, being encumbered 215/130 for about a week, and not knowing it, and with painfully crap human sight, I ran up to a giant wooly spider and whacked him in the skull. Next think I know, I'm being smacked around Frodo-style. At this time I can't see a bloody thing so I started screaming and running in SLOW circles, until I came to a door of a farm house. Bang, I'm in.

I remember really wishing that I could see more of the world at level 8 and venturing out from Everfrost via Blackburrow.

Phew - made it to the other side of Blackburrow, then finally through Qeynos Hills then to... WK. I ran into a shaman who was an uber level 11 - Palora. She taught me to run by the river and said we could maybe bum a port in NK.

Got to NK, but no druids would port us for our measly amounts of gp's. Then was killed by a bear and - d'oh - I was bound in Halas!

Learned not to like druids much that day.

I remember when there were actually REAL newbs in the game, and not every character under level 20 was a twink. I used to like helping them out... I used to farm othmir and got a ton of their armor and would usually sell it, but once in a while I would see a newb in need and give it to them. They would be genuinley gratefull.

I can't remember how many newbs I helped get around with free ports and guides around. Now days, everyone has a level 60+ character as their main, is twinked with more valuable gear than I have, and only wants to use me as a buff whore...

When I first begun Haloface, I made the run from Qeynos to Freeport as soon as I had invis at lvl8. I had JUST dinged lvl8, mind you. No safety exp.
But, someHOW, I made it to Freeport (one of the most enjoyable experiences of the game.. especially when everything seemed limitless and.. well.. just gigantic and mysterious and SCARY). So I make it to Freeport, and forgetting to find a bind (and probably not having enough pp, I think) I ran out to East Commons in a flurry of excitment.
Bam. Dead.
KILLER BEETLES CAN RUN FASTER THAN ME!!

By some miracle of Thor, a druid ported me back to WC from Qeynos, and I managed to run to East Commons. Beside my corpse was a bard named Mokas. This must have been.. four years ago now. She was lvl40, I was lvl8. She kindly helped me re-level and gain some safety exp, as well as 40pp and 5 gold for my next lvl spells :P
I thought she was Jesus Christ with a flute.
I saw her again a few months later when I was lvl55 (yeah.. I played almost every day back then), but she was still only about lvl42. But damn did I praise her, and every moment I saw her after.

Heh... when I started the game, I created a human druid and my best friend created a human paladin. I worshiped Karana, he worshiped E Marr, so I started in Surefall and he started in Freeport.

It was decided that at level 5 I would make the run to Freeport to exp with him.

I started the run and did pretty well. Made it to SK (way back when you had to navigate by rumor and there were no maps... or at least I didn't know of any map sites) and started shouting asking how to get to Freeport.

A level 30ish dwarven cleric saw me shouting and told me my folly. He then met up with me and offered to guide me to Freeport.

He ran with me to Freeport... with no sow... I don't really remember when we left, but I remember we didn't arrive until 2 AM lol. I died to a lion along the way and he rezed me. He bound me in Highkeep to be safe and taught me how to run the wall through Kithcor to be safe. He even attacked a Willowisp along the way and got me a Greater Lightstone.

After arriving in Freeport and binding me, he had to log. I asked if there was any way I could thank him and he said I didn't have to do anything for him, just do the same for newbies once I was high level.

I swore I would never forget him... but like a week later I couldn't remember his name (didn't know about /friends yet).

I remember watching a 25 pally get owned by Dorn, after she told me (playing my ogre sk at the time) that evil will never prevail, and we will all suffer under the light of some fucking god.

I remember when every freaking city guard in the game was camped by druids and necros.

I remember some guild that would have officers standing around outside Halas on Sol Ro, inviting every damn barb that was rolled up to their guild (Ice Claw I think)

I remember my first character, a wood elf warrior. I logged into kelethin with my leet 64mb of ram and not being able to move. And being seriously pissed off at all the assholes shouting and auc'ing in the zone lagging me too bad to go find my trainer. Then rerolling as a half elf druid in surefall, and promptly drowning in the pond.

Seeing people camp Baobob and Chanda nonstop and putting see invis on at the ruins in Qeynos hills to reveal a mass of wizards sitting invis waiting for Pzjynn to KS the mages and necros waiting there with their pets up.

I remember waiting on the docks that were completely packed full of people, on those shit fucking boats, only to have them dump you off on some random rock in the middle of nothing. Or to have a seafurry board your ship and rip everyones nuts off.

I remember when Black Iron was uber, and some rogue started cussing me out, because I was a twink with full ravenscale at lvl 20.. then inspecting me, finding out it was black iron and giving me 2 vials of poison for not being a twink.

I remember pickpocketing the shit out of everything in all my groups, knowing god damn good and well that there wasn't a second loot pool for pickpocket anymore, but convincing my groups there was anyway.. cause I needed that money for silver plated leggings.

I remember the Movelog to Ayonae Ro, and thinking I had a big headstart on this new server since my main (lvl 19 gnome rogue) had not only a scarab helm and boots, but a dragoon dirk, and scarab breastplate (and also a dorf tunic).

I remember at level 30, seeing some noob ass rogue wandering around Ak`Anon.. sending him a tell asking if he could find the Gnome rogue leaders, his reply "hell no". then a few seconds later "are you greldek from the safehouse?" and that made decide to help this "popi" fellow find the rogue leader (even though it took me like a fucking day to find it..)
Then when I finally got lvl 42.. Popi was 60 and an officer in XA.. damn noobs.

I remember when all the other classes were jealous of rogues because we figured out our epic, and a huge debate about whether the Particle effect was too lame, or just perfect at the safehouse.

I remember being so happy when I finally finished my Burning Rapier, with Ullric's help. (He almost got owned in the sol a part too because of the chicks damage shield :p ) I vowed to never bank it, and never did. It has always been in my weapons bag.

I remember when Nena and Shadowcross held a rogue PVP tourney at the lake rathe arena, and I won for my lvl range (30's).. and the other guy bitched and cried cause I kept disarming him. My prize was a Ravenscale BP :)

I remember CT being the awesomest zone for 20-30's, even after kunark.

I remember Talid offering all his friends Halfling Head.

I remember feeling like a gigantic piece of shit because Malse gave me lots of hard to get 65 shaman spells for my shaman, and about a week after I scribed them I quit for good :\ And still do feel bad about that.. sorry Malse :(

I remember paying all I had for a teleport to the karanas with a druid having heard of the famous "blackburrow" and wanting to explore it. After rambling about North Karana, almost getting killed a dozen times at level 12, I was pointed in the direction of Qeynos Hills and finally died in blackburrow, after forgetting to bind in Qeynos. Doh! (this was before *anyone* in the game had resurrection, and few enough having teleport of any kind).

I remember using my Short Sword of Morin with my ykesha to pass off as dual wielding them.

I remember sitting in Frenzy with Edeina camping the FBSS for 8+ hours straight and having to call him 'cause he'd fallen asleep on the keyboard at work.
