Take a look, just found a BFG 512MB GeForce 6800 Ultra PCI-E x16 for sale on May 5.

Is that not HUGE speed or what (in more ways than one.. $$$$ anyone ;))? I haven't seen any others for pre-sale yet, but I'm assuming that more companies will be manufacturing this or is this just a minor speed bump/gimmick by BFG? What about ATI's plans?

I can't imagine what a latest system running two of these monsters could do, lol. And it would only cost you $1800 plus shipping :p!

Anyone know what ATI and NVIDIA's development roadmaps look like? Graphics cards haven't been this idle for a while, despite their great accomplishments of late.

Well i read ati is developing a card for the xbox 360 thats better than anything on the market now, then its going to be released after the xbox comes out. no idea how true that is.

Aren't they doing the same thing with CPU processors too? I think Intel is working on a duel chip processor, and didn't AMD already produce a duel processor design, the opteron?

Exciting time to build a new pc!

Dual "Core"

The premise being that in the footprint of one CPU, there actually exist two (or more).

This message was kinda cryptic to me, so I bought the new PCWORLD magazine, and they talk about SLI and dual-core processors.

Its pretty informative, but at the same time, I'm a little dissapointed. It seems the dual-cores use just one slot for the processor, but its like having two processors in 1??

They said it only improves multi-tasking, mostly in CPU intensive programs like Photoshop, or video editing. It doesn't improve speed that much??

Reading the SLI article makes me wonder about heat problems? What about power problems? I know having just one Nvidia 6800 draws alot of juice, so I can imagine 2 would be hard on an old power supply.

Does anyone know what a safe amount of wattage this would require? Something around 500 for the entire pc I imagine???

Yeah around there. Many PSUs these days will tell you if they're "SLI Ready".

"SLI Ready" only means that the PSU has 2 SLI plugs on its wiring harness. It doesn't mean that is has enough power for a SLI setup. On a 6600GT setup you could probably get away with a 450W PSU but on 6800GT's or better you'll need, IMO, 600W or 510W PCP&C SLI(one of the highest quality PSU's you can buy).
