Old game: Starcraft

New Problem:

The situation is that I have 2 copies of Starcraft. They each have their own CD keys etc etc. Everything is legit. I have a home LAN with 3 systems and they are sharing a single cable connection from Adelphia. My external (ISP)IP is assigned dynamically and my router (LinksysBEFSX41) uses DHCP to assign the LAN IP addresses. All the computers have a 10/100 switch connecting them to the router which is 4 port and also has a print server, network HDD and wireless access point plugged into the remaining ports. I have the proper port forwarding done 6112 to 6119 (TCP/UDP)and 4000 (TCP/UDP) set to the IP of the computer that is hosting the game on Battle.Net. If the game is just me and someone on one of my LAN computers playing against the computer, it works. But, who wants to do that on BNet since you can just do a LAN game, right?

So we make a "3vs3comps" game. Buddy of mine is hosting on the machine with the port routed IP and I join it. Third person joins from outside location and we start the game. It takes forever for the game to sync and then when it finally starts its lagged to shit and everyone quits the game. Supposedly its because the BNet is seeing my two machines as being on the one ISP IP address and it makes it have a seisure.

Yah, Starcraft is an old game but supposedly there might be a fix out there and perhaps someone here might know what it is.....besides buying 2-3 external fixed IP addresses. Gaming Cafes get Starcraft to work on their LANs and B.Net, probably without having to have an external IP address for every computer. Any help would be much appreciated.

To my knowledge Starcraft relies on NWlink IPX/SPX for its networking. Go into your network properties and under connections (Microsoft client, TCP/IP) hit install then protocols then NWlink. All machines on your LAN will have to have this done.

A somewhat recent patch added TCP/IP support for Starcraft.

Thats an old issue though. I don't remember if there was a fix or not.. been a while since I've delt with it.

Out of curiosity, are you all patched up on SC?

I can get on B.Net, which means I pretty much have to patch to their latest patch which is v 1.12. Also, SC uses TCP/UDP now for LAN games and B.Net as well, which I guess is friendly with Win XP?

You have to buy another IP address from your ISP.

You have to buy another IP address from your ISP.

+ $5.00 per month! (At least that's what Comcast is)

Greedy bastards!

I don't think that'd be the case. I used to have 5+ people playing WC3 from my basement on battle.net without any problems, and that was on a dsl line. Unless they use different technology for Starcraft.

Kel, WC3 does indeed use different (better) technology than Starcraft. Supposedly WC3 is peer to peer. Anyway, kinda gave up on Starcraft and got warcraft 3 going on the LAN. I feel no need to have to buy another IP address to get a 8 year old game working.
