Well that was easy. I took the gamble that I'd get a shorter wait if I went to vote today half an hour early(a block from my house) then the 2+ hour waits for early voting here. I was right, I was done by 7:10. The line was wrapped around the building when I left though.

I waited 45 minutes in Columbus, OH. Others at my polling place said they had an hour and a half wait (your last name could impact how long one particular line took. S people waited an extra 45 minutes over us H people).

Cool, your last name is H? Easy to spell at least.

Was at the polls 30 minutes before they opened, and was about 40th in line. Once they opened, maybe took about 5-7 minutes to get ballot and less than a minute wait for a booth.

Like others, I saw much longer line on my way out, and was glad to have gone early. After eggs benedict at the local cafe, am ready now to sit and watch returns throughout the day.

im REALLY doubting we will have a result tonight. There is already something like 49 legal fillings for misc things around the country pertaining to voting.

I got at my polling place at 7:15; I didn't get out till almost 8:30. They had two lines A-L and M-Z; the A-L line was 10x longer than M-Z line. Why they did it that way I haven't a clue in years past it was broken down into other sub-categories.

Also it's been interesting discussing with my co-workers the different methods (paper ballot vs. electronic) at each poll station even with in the same county. I was surprised to hear some places had only paper ballots.

We had the two line breakdown as well, although it usually was at least four lines in previous elections; but there were more voting booths as well. And, we had paper ballots, which I prefer for the paper trail.

I'm walking over to the polls in a minute, soon as I finish this coffee. Hoping mid-morning will be a sweet spot between early and lunch voters.

We had the choice of electronic or paper. It was a huge polling place with at least 60 voting booths. Each line was broken down by two letters, i.e. A-B, C-D, etc.

I was in the H-I line which was very short once I got inside the door. The J-K had no line, but the S line was HUGE.

Paper ballots for the win. Gotta love that paper trail.

And I think that it will get called tonight if Obama does as well as he's supposed to. There is always litigation on election day. It will only come into play if a particular battleground state is very very close, or if an important state has some very serious fraud issues that are exposed.

I'm kind of hoping that McCain just condeedes, and doesn't try to do the whole "I want a recount!" bit. Bow out classy-like, and let the will of the people be done....

I'm hoping to know some sort of result, be it a land slide or a concession sometime reasonably early tonight (say 10 EST), so I don't stay up all night watching the results.

At this point the Senate races in MI, NC, GA, MS, and KY are the most interesting things to me.

Dole is done in NC. That 'There is no god' ad put the nail in her coffin.

I hope GA can mobilize enough urban voters to get rid of that piece of shit Saxby Chambliss. There's a chance!

I think Levin holds Michigan. KY and MS go to McConnell and Wicker, respectively.

I heard McConnell was getting a much stronger challenge than had been anticipated.

I heard McConnell was getting a much stronger challenge than had been anticipated. This is true... But I just can't bring myself to think the minority leader is going to lose to a Democrat in mother fucking KENTUCKY! (lol)

Although it happened to Daschale. We'll see! (Not in KY, however :p )

Dole is highly unlikely to win, although the ads basically conceding the presidency to Obama and urging voters not to vote for "complete liberal control" have had some effect around here.

Chambliss needs to go. He's a complete douche-bag. I called all my friends and family back in GA and asked them to go vote even if they thought Obama would lose the state, just for the Senate race.

I mistyped and meant Minnesota, not Michigan. The Franken/Coleman race is the tightest of all.

I saw a lot of those mailings last week, which pretty much summed up the views of the RNC on McCain's campaign.

And as far as Franken/Coleman, I was so disgusted by both of their campaigns I voted for Barklay, who was the Wellstone replacement appointed by Ventura prior to Coleman winning the seat the last time the seat was up.

Coleman is a yes-man, run of the mill, vanilla politician. Franken is a bit too liberal for me. Barkley isn't fancy but aligns pretty well with the middle.

Facebook counter has 1.75 million users voted thus far. Considering that it's mostly younger people who use this site, I'm pleasantly encouraged. The number is rising rapidly. It was a million an hour or so ago.

Voter suppression at work (http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/1108/A_fake_email_at_George_Mason.html?showall)

This is apparently going on all across the country. Fortunately, I don't think many college students are going to be fooled by this bullshit. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe this is illegal and I hope after the election the FEC goes after each and every person involved in this garbage.

I always liked the good old days in England when voting wasn't anonymous and hired thugs of the guy running would beat you if you voted for the opposition (1700s).

Not many queues then I bet.

ainwein
11-04-2008, 01:18 PM
You are assuming that most people are sensible?

They are also doing things like telling people if you go to vote, they will arrest you for any warrants. And guess where this is happening? Poor urban areas. Hmmm...

I have no less than three friends on facebook who have the thing about voting on Wednesday. It's been happening across the country.

23% of Texans still believe Obama is a Muslim, and you're telling me that you can't fool some people into not voting? Read up on some of the other ridiculous (and effective) ways they have suppressed voter turnout in the past.

LOL exactly!
But where I live in PA it's Stolzfus (or however you spell it) and all the wierd PA dutch names. Again though, why they didn't break it down like they had in years past boggles my mind.

It also boggles my mind to hear how vastly different polls are conducted in the same state in different counties and townships. I think it should be more consistent instead of having so many different ways of tallying crap be it paper or electronic I don't care.

Some folks who voted over lunch had no lines so I guess it's better to vote 9-3.

Those techniques have been used this very year in some parts of the world, as reported on the news including, I am sure, the BBC. Wasn't there a certain opposition candidate in an African country who had to leave the country, and whose supporters were being shot and hacked to death?

Yes, though a forced runoff probably means a Chambliss win because I feel that the new voters (mostly democrats) won't return to vote in the runoff.

Booo, I showed up at 6:00 AM this morning, and it took an hour and a half to get through - mostly due to incompetent voters and poll workers. I drove by after work, around 5:00, and there was no line. Students at the school are driving me crazy all day demanding to know who I voted for. I told them I scribbled out every option on the ballot and wrote in my name.

Don't worry Osg, I actually wrote in Palin's name. She'll make it for Arizona commissions!

Yes indeed. A couple years back WGAL ran a special on Manheim School District and showed the number of Stolzfus who went there. In one school alone (I think it was Manheim High School) there were 41 kids all with the same last name and supposedly not all related. Wow. But there's Lapp, Zimmerman, Yoder, Lantz.... back home in NC it was Crow, Walkingstick, Standingdeer, Wolfe, Youngbird...etc. Names are interesting :D
