So I got in on the Free-For-a-Year thing they're doing right now. I have to say, I am much more impressed with it than I'd thought I would be. All I've really played on it was a demo of Unreal III, but it played pretty well. There is a somewhat noticeable lag between when you move and when your character moves, but to be honest, you get used to it pretty quick.

One of the things I enjoy doing most, though, is going into the "Arena" area and just watching other people play. The ability to just pop into someone else's game and check it out for a little bit, pop out and then into another one is very neat.

Anyway, if you haven't seen it, I recommend checking it out. I think their still doing the year free thing..

Cloud computing for games? Interesting!

Aside from the free 30 min demos of the games this really is nothing more than an expensive rental service. I was disappointed to see the $7 for 5 days per game cost. Gamefly doesn't get to your house as fast, but also doesn't have the lag.

And while free for the first year for new members now only, I don't see why people would pay for the service on top of the rental fees next year.

I am definitely not keeping the service after the initial year, since I have a gaming machine at home and an XBox360.

This would be great for someone who has an older computer, or who is on a lot of different computers and wants to be able to pop into a game at any time. I think that's really where the true value of the service is. Not for some people, but probably a great solution for some.

What I like about it is being able to try out games for 1/2 hour to see if I like them. That's totally worth free ; p
