I'm heading to Orlando next week for some traning stuff and would like to do things in the evenings. Trouble is it looks like all the parks close at 6pm? WTF? :( So what should we do while we're there? If anyone has any suggestions please give them!

booze+short drive south+gators=fun?
I actually didn't spend enough time in the city to give you any advice, but I definitely recommend checking out the back roads of southern Florida. Not at night though.

Heck, that's where all the fun is! Be sure to take your mosquito repellant, and a flashlight!

I lived there for 6 years and I will try to think about it throughout the day.
Downtown Disney - Pleasure Island
City Walk - Too much to say
Church St.
I will try to think of some more.

Pleasure Island closed a few years back :\
Its a tourist mecca though there must be stuff to do at night.

We bought the 7 day unlimited pass thingy for Universal and some other park (2 park pass basically) because it also gives access to city walk which is what folks at work suggested. My dilema is that I'll be in training until 5ish and parks close at 6pm, i'll take a day or two to do stuff there but wanted to know what was around for evening entertainment.
Blue Man Group = sold out
La Nouba = not performing when we're there
So we were thinking City Walk, dinner and a movie at least one night but beyond that... no idea.

City Walk, which is part of universal is open till very late. I've been to concerts at Hard Rock Live there and came out at 11:30-12 and the place was still quite busy.
Course, City Walk is free to get into. Guess no one told you that. Downtown Disney is too.
I'm in St. Pete. though so don't know much more

On every site I visited it mentioned that getting into city walk was free but that most bars charge a cover. If you get the pass you are not charged any covers.

Ah, well thats good then. Shows how much I've been there. I pretty much only go to Orlando for concerts, heh.

haha, I'm sure I can guess where you were going with it. just found out some gaming friends who live near gainsville are coming to visit and there's the potential of others flying in for the fun. i'm wondering how much training i'll actually get to do!

City Walk is a good atmosphere, great variety of bars/clubs even if you're not into that scene its still a good atmosphere. I would recommend Howl at the Moon on International drive. (aka I-Drive) Its a Piano bar thats real real fun time. Food wise, Charley's steakhouse on I-Drive is rated top 10 in country and I agree. Most restaurants on I-Drive are nice, they are geared to accomadate the convention center crowd so typically its great stuff.
Let me know if you want company, i do live there and all!

ha! I didn't know you lived here Grey :)
and i'm just now getting to check forums, it's been busy for us. I dragged Leah along and she's just been lounging at the pool and hanging in the spa (lucky bitch) while I've been working/doing the conf. We have a friend driving up from Gainsville today to stay the rest of the time with us. If you want to meet us for drinks like tomorrow or later tonight that would be cool. Our event night for the conf is Universal, they're closing part of it for us to have a private thingy there for a few hours tonight and I doubt I'll be functioning till we're done there since it's all open bar. I have your number? I think? I'll drop you a text later today in case you sleep later than I do :)

Hey Fil - not sure if I'm too late to give you some info but ...Universal Studios is doing Halloween Horror Nights Sept 25th til October 31st - http://www.halloweenhorrornights.com/orlando/index.html - City Walk has bars, restaurants, shops and a movie theater - The Disney Marketplace has restaurants and shops - You'd probably like Disney Quest. Hope you have a good time! Take pictures!!

I was in Orlando for last year's cable show... and it pretty much sucked. I stayed in my hotel the entire time.
