big boi and andre3000, pure garbage.

Even tho i like hip hop, outkast is really pure garbage.

To the first quote, If you don't listen to Rap/r & b and you dislike it of course it will be garbage.

But to both quotes, If you do listen to it then you have no freaking eardrums or are deaf mutes. Outkast has been one of the most influential Groups in the past decade. When you have a group that can get played on 4 Diffrent Genres of music stations(Alt, R&B, Rap, Rock) and appeal to that many people you have to be out of your mind to call it Garbage!

I do agree that thier new album is weird, but, they were trying something diffrent. When I first heard Dre's(And yes i know andre, big boi, c lo, kujo from alternative school) album I was like WTF is he doing. Big Boi's isnt as bad as Dre's but the are both unorthodoxed from what we are use to seeing from Outkast.

And don't lable people wiggers just because they listen to rap. I went to a school that was 95% black, lived in a black neighborhood, like rap/hip-hop and I dont go around with my pants hanging down/bling-bling/wassap shawty ect ect.

*Edit* If you feel there work is garbage I really dont think you have Listened to thier music. The stories they tell in thier music are very captivating for me and allot of the time humorus. Take the time to sit down and listen to the lyrics I think you may change your view.

gerf is obviously not a knowledgefull head...

outkast is nothing

if you want influence look at (more recently) Dre, (not andre3000), KRS-one, Geto Boys, Big L, Wu-Tang, Living Legends (to the west coasters)...thats influence...not Outkast

I liked some of their older stuff, but Andre3000s cd is crap.

mirdorr
11-12-2003, 12:19 AM
Yeah, you're right, that is where it's from. It's close to an Eastwood quote, and I figured he just messed it up or something.

Tremain Bladesinger
11-12-2003, 05:51 AM
Actually i believe it might just be a quote by Wyatt Earp, thats why you might have heard it in an older movie. I got it from tombstone, guess i should get rid of it since i don't even play shadowbane anymore.

You must be from the Midwest/West Coast huh Tremain?

Living Legends Havent heard of and Ghetto Boys!!!! You can't be serious. The only one I would agree with you at all on is Dr. Dre. The others except KRS-One(He hasnt done anything in the last 10 years if im not mistaken) are a complete joke man. I likw Wu-Tang but they dont hold Kast's jocks man. They came and they went like everyone else on your list.( Except Dre).

But to list groups like Ghetto Boys(3ft Midget was thier claim to fame), Big L(who?), Living Legedns(who?) and then try to knock on my knowledge, is hilarious.

BAHAHAHHA

Gerf you are a fucken moron...

I am from cali. Geto Boys are much more influencial than you think. All you know is mainstream and you think good music is actually influeced by that...

You don't know who living legends are...you just said wutang is worse than outkast?!$*!#$? BAHAHAH...what do you smoke bud..cuz i wanna take a hit of that..

but seriously, the short bus stops here and its time for you to get the hell off...

Living legends are from the West Coast, big influence on west coast music. Nice beats, good flows

Big L is the greatest east coast rapper, is dead now, Casualties of a Dice Game a real good song by him. Insane lyrics.

Wutang has been holding it down forever now. Outkast is no where near wutang, no where near RZA on production, no where near any of them lyric wise.

KRS-one hasn't released anything in 10 years?

KRS One - 'The Mix Tape' - 2002
KRS One - 'The Sneak Attack' 2001
KRS One - 'Spiritual Minded' 2002
not including vinyls and singles

Pete Rock & CL Smooth as well have been huge influences.

You might consider Geto Boys crap, but they have influenced alot of rappers believe it or not. No hard to find out, and rather than be a close minded moron, why not just go and explore first?

Had this discussion with Tierfin ingame the other day, i stated my dislike for hiphop/rap and he promptly asked what did i listen to? This got me thinking, what is the real core of why i like the music i like (tool, APS, slipknot, SOAD) and why i dislike the hiphop/rap genre.

I came to a premature conclusion that it was probably due to the "music" behind the lyrics. As in most of the mainstream hiphop/rap the music is repetitive skillless bullshit. Sure the lyrics might be great as with the singer, but when i listen to music, i listen for the drums, the guitar, and the difficulty/skill at which they play. As a general blanket statement which will probably earn me some flames Hip-hop and rap "music" eats cock.

Another thing which will earn me more shit is the repetitivity in the voices of the mainstream hiphop/rap. Take 50 cent for example, he sings in the same monotonous voice the whole way through all of his songs, no vocal variation.

*Edit* If you feel there work is garbage I really dont think you have Listened to thier music. The stories they tell in thier music are very captivating for me and allot of the time humorus. Take the time to sit down and listen to the lyrics I think you may change your view.

Firstly, i dont think any amount of listening is going to change a lot of people's, namely my, opinion. Perhaps its because i don't want to like it? Whether through some subconscious reaction perhaps in my upbringing or influences in my life. But what can make our tastes in music so different? Secondly, see italics. Is the prominant feature The actual stories behind the lyrics? Its safe to say most hiphop/rap are lacking in musical skill and prowess, and by music i mean instruments, not the the overall song, and perhaps the music i enjoy is lacking in lyrical substance.

Which brings me back to the "why dont i like this music" question. Perhaps its the way we look at music as a whole, through my idea of good music, something fun to listen to where you can pick out excellent skill and expertise and say "wow". But through your idea of good music, you see a message from the artists through the lyrics, which "tell a story"

Perhaps this is all cliche to some of you but i am generally curious. wtb opinion of hiphop/rap loverplz.

Grumblin ~ Prophet

I am from cali.

I knew it.

Geto Boys are much more influencial than you think. All you know is mainstream and you think good music is actually influeced by that...

/boggle... How many times did your mom drop you on your head when you were little? You assume you know what I listen to. Mainstream? Don't assume shit you have no clue on. I guess opinions are like assholes, everybody has one.

...you just said wutang is worse than outkast?!$*!#$? BAHAHAH...what do you smoke bud..cuz i wanna take a hit of that..

Youre damn right I did. Wu-Tang is good but(Read Closely here ill say it slowly) I T H I N K Outkast is better. I could give a shit what you think.

Living legends are from the West Coast, big influence on west coast music. Nice beats, good flows.
Big L is the greatest east coast rapper, is dead now, Casualties of a Dice Game a real good song by him. Insane lyrics.

Like I said befor I dont have a fucking clue who either is. But a big thumbs up eminem for pulling some names from underground and saying they are big influences.

Wutang has been holding it down forever now. Outkast is no where near wutang, no where near RZA on production, no where near any of them lyric wise.

Already touched on this point. Keep holding it dizzown dizzog!

KRS One - 'The Mix Tape' - 2002

I dont really like KRS One so I havent heard any of his shit lately. Could be because im not a big fan of the Northern East coast hip-hop. But I do agree KRS One has had an influence in the industry.

You might consider Geto Boys crap, but they have influenced alot of rappers believe it or not. No hard to find out, and rather than be a close minded moron, why not just go and explore first?

If it's not so hard to figure out then show me how they influenced anyone... It has nothing to do with close mindedness you reject, It has to do with me and you having diffrent( R e a d V e r y S l o w l y A g a i n) OPINIONS can you get that through your skullcap? I listened to Ghetto Boys when I was younger which is why I dont need to explore. Thier music was o.k, wasnt spectacular, thus I dont think they could be a Big influence at all.

Mod's would it be possible to change tief's name to B-Rad? I think has one of malibu's ost wanted!

Fact:

Something demonstrated to exist or known to have existed
Something believed to be true or real

Opinion

A belief or conclusion held with confidence but not substantiated by positive knowledge or proof

Example of fact: Gerf is a retard whose opinions are held only by him...

Example of opinion: Gerf himself thinks he is a wise, but says outkast is better than wutang. Wow...(fact inserted) he is a moron.

You call me a joke yet I have the actual facts while you are the one pumpin out opinions buddy.

Find me a credible source that says ghetto boys ect( not krs one, not wu tang because i agree they have influenced hip hop) have had a big influence on hip hop and you win teh hizzip hizzop award.

Until then you are stating an OPINION

All those new hip hop rapper dudes are nothing but hilarious (looking) wanna be cool "I gunna get teh monee and bitchs" teenagers. But then.. I find the Hip Hop "Culture" hilarious and really ridiculous anyways.

Oh I love, Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding, Chuck Berry, Hendrix, James Brown, Frank Sinatra and so on... I like really a lot of music. I just really damn dislike the new ridiculous Hip hop "Culture". I have to hold my breath every time I see anyone wearing "hip hop clothes" so I don't burst in laughter.
And even the Videos are so cool. YOu always in every single video see tons of chicks wiggling their asses wanting nothing but to give you head and these really cool Rappers looking very very badass with their way too big clothes and sit in a 200'000$ car.
There, I covered 95% of all hip hop videos.

Hip Hop used to be a revolution, a "voice" and a cry for help from the abandonned, poor and forgotten black people in the ghettos.
Today its nothing but a huge puppet show with everyone just showing off with their huge amounts of money. You are cool if you own a huge pool and tons of chicks, you are respected when you have a very damn expensive car and you're the rulez when you make funny "poses" with your fingers and show it in the cam.
A whole lifestyle built up on "what you own" and what you wear. There's nothing else behind it. Guess why all the brands push them rappers. Never before has anyone pushed "the need for consumption in all possible ways" as much as they do.

Since it does seem some Rap fans are frequenting this thread, I have no idea if anyone in the US or abroad has heared of Swollen members but if you haven't there a great Canadian Rap group got lots of good tracks if your a rap fan I recommend them.

For me I do have to say I like Outkast they've had several good tracks.

Over played or whatever but Eminem has had the biggest impact in recent history.

As for my rap history Maybe I'm getting old but I have to say the bands that I thought were the biggest contributors to Rap were:

Run DMC, NWA, Dr Dre, LL, Beastie Boys, Cypris Hill, Tupac, and Rage against the machine (The first real Rap/rock mix band)

The current mix in my car though would have the following on it:

Dr Dre, NWA, Snoop Dog, Coolio, Skee Lo, 50 Cent, Naughty by nature, Eminem, Tone loc, Tupac,

Well, I agree thats how the mainstream is, and that it's just funny as hell. And the best stuff was indeed a while ago(run dmc). But, there are in fact rappers whom aren't all into the bling bling now a days, and that make listenable music too. Akrobatik is one I like, There's a bunch on the Tony Hawk's Underground soundtrack, and I'm sure there are many more which I haven't heard of yet.

and Rage against the machine (The first real Rap/rock mix band)

You mentioned ones that came before them in your own list. :b Run DMC made the first popular Rap/rock song, and Beastie Boys were definetely one of the first big rap/rock hybrid groups.

D12 does own. I like Bizarre too. While he can't rap as well as most, his lyrics are funny, while disturbing.

"You know why my hands are so numb?
My grandmother sucked my dick and I didn't come"

Or

My girlfriend had a miscarriage
I had to eat it

actually i got 2 cds with them and like 3 or 4 tapes and one with just promoe (dude in beard and dreads) also i got lots of other cds with those members together with other swedish rappers and things like that, like cosm.i.c. and dj embee = casual brothers.. all in all something like 10 cds/tapes/lps... also they've done lots of work with the swedish hiphop collective sedlighetsroteln, who i'm afraid don't do anything in english. oh yeah and dj embee released a solo cd called blood, sweat and beer, only contained 3 songs or so though but it was kinda kickass :D

LOOPTROOPLAND!!! :D

listening to that track you suggested now.. what language is that?! hehe
i like it, alot actually and usually i care little for american hiphop, all the talk about bitches, cars, money, whatever gets old fast :( only other swedish rapper i could recommend to anyone not swedishtalking would have to be timbuktu. he's voted sweden's best mc a couple of times.. same goes for him though, lots of his work is in swedish, but his first album had 2 cds one of em in english.. i'd recommend the songs "all the wrong reasons" and "northface", i think you'd like them

oh and non phixion and looptroop has done some shows, don't know if any of it has been recorded though :(

Tierfin

"And people complain about Marylin Manson's lyrics... "

actually we listen to his music, like it, make him rich, then bitch about HIM

but he is a good performer too, his performance at the ozzfest was the best by far

Ya and that makes you very wise, doesn't it? ;)
I neither listen to, nor complain about him. All I know about him is what I saw in "Bowling for Columbine", and there he looked like a really intelligent person actually.

trimlock
11-19-2003, 06:16 PM
well, not saying we were intelligent for doing so

music is an industry where you don't have to know the performer to give a shit about ...

but he is very intelligent, at least he comes off to be one, especially in his interviews about music

You just reminded me that good music still does exist. Visit the HIM (http://www.heartagram.com) site.

Ya know the funny thing about rap?

Its sooo far removed from reality of the situation that its become a Life imitates Art kind of thing.

When rap first came out it was a reflection of urban life, it had its good and its bad, it was an honest look.
That sold..
THen came "gangsta rap".. which for the most part is 98% bullshit. Its convulted exaggerated escapism that is designed to sell to suburban white kids.
But in the mother of all ironies.. as a result of shit poor parenting and ignorance, we see that the streets reflect the hottest rap act, the exact opposite of what "gangsta" rappers claim.
And 14-19 year old middle class kids, looking to be "rebels", mock whatever they see in the most ridiculous way.

10 years from now, Gangsta Rap will be a bigger joke than Disco is now.
