Ok, Byl mentioned this patch in the LK thread, but I figured I'd give it its own thread, since its pretty major.
Original WoW was 1.x, BC was 2.x, LK is now 3.x. In preparation for the expansion (1 month away), the 3.0.2 patch was released yesterday. WAY to much stuff was changed to cover in a single post. I highly recommend checking out www.mmo-champion.com for more detailed info. Here's the big stuff:
-Leveling from 60 - 70 requires less exp.
-BC Raid bosses have 30% less HP and do 30% less damage.
-All of the classes talent trees have been revamped. Every tree now has a 51 point talent, much the way with BC we had 41 point talents. Everyone's talents have been reset.
-Inscription and Glyphs are now in the game. Glyphs are spell / ability augmenations or changes. There are major and minor glyphs. This allows further customization of your talent spec. Some glyphs are purely for benefit (many of the mana cost reduction ones are this way). Some augment part of the spelll while removing a secondary element of the spell.
Inscription is the tradeskill that can create Glyphs. They can also create decks of cards (and eventually actual darkmoon cards) which start a quest and give a pretty good blue item for their respective levels.
-Class re-balance. Blizzard's new vision is that no one class should have the "must have for this dungeon / raid" ability. They've decuded to "spread the love" a bit. Some of the talents and builds are really awesome. I get the feeling that in balancing the power of the talents, the devs really had level 80 in mind. Most people have noticed pretty big jumps in DPS etc.
-There is no longer +spell damage and +healing. It is all +spell power. All current items have had their +healing to +spell power (the +spell power was lowered). What this results in is, healers +healing dropped dramatically (1000+ in some cases). However, there are new coefficients associated with healing that makes it so the lower +spell power number actually heals for the same amount as the +healing did before. What this accomplishes is that it makes it so there isn't really "caster' and "healer" gear anymore, just different stats. Also, classes that had a ton of +healing gear who also have a spell damage spec (shaman, druid) now also have great spell damage gear.
-Haste and to hit now effect everything, melee and spell.
-Achievements are in the game. Theres a lot of them. It has already been stated that you will not get gear from them, but you will get fluff benefits like mounts and titles.
Thats pretty much the basics of it. Sorry if I missed anything. As to individual classes, like I said, WAY to much was changed to cover it all here. One of the biggest things was that hunter pets now get their own talent trees. Anyway, go check out the patch notes and the talent calculator at mmo-champion if you want to know about your particular class.
