Ok, Byl mentioned this patch in the LK thread, but I figured I'd give it its own thread, since its pretty major.

Original WoW was 1.x, BC was 2.x, LK is now 3.x. In preparation for the expansion (1 month away), the 3.0.2 patch was released yesterday. WAY to much stuff was changed to cover in a single post. I highly recommend checking out www.mmo-champion.com for more detailed info. Here's the big stuff:

-Leveling from 60 - 70 requires less exp.

-BC Raid bosses have 30% less HP and do 30% less damage.

-All of the classes talent trees have been revamped. Every tree now has a 51 point talent, much the way with BC we had 41 point talents. Everyone's talents have been reset.

-Inscription and Glyphs are now in the game. Glyphs are spell / ability augmenations or changes. There are major and minor glyphs. This allows further customization of your talent spec. Some glyphs are purely for benefit (many of the mana cost reduction ones are this way). Some augment part of the spelll while removing a secondary element of the spell.
Inscription is the tradeskill that can create Glyphs. They can also create decks of cards (and eventually actual darkmoon cards) which start a quest and give a pretty good blue item for their respective levels.

-Class re-balance. Blizzard's new vision is that no one class should have the "must have for this dungeon / raid" ability. They've decuded to "spread the love" a bit. Some of the talents and builds are really awesome. I get the feeling that in balancing the power of the talents, the devs really had level 80 in mind. Most people have noticed pretty big jumps in DPS etc.

-There is no longer +spell damage and +healing. It is all +spell power. All current items have had their +healing to +spell power (the +spell power was lowered). What this results in is, healers +healing dropped dramatically (1000+ in some cases). However, there are new coefficients associated with healing that makes it so the lower +spell power number actually heals for the same amount as the +healing did before. What this accomplishes is that it makes it so there isn't really "caster' and "healer" gear anymore, just different stats. Also, classes that had a ton of +healing gear who also have a spell damage spec (shaman, druid) now also have great spell damage gear.

-Haste and to hit now effect everything, melee and spell.

-Achievements are in the game. Theres a lot of them. It has already been stated that you will not get gear from them, but you will get fluff benefits like mounts and titles.

Thats pretty much the basics of it. Sorry if I missed anything. As to individual classes, like I said, WAY to much was changed to cover it all here. One of the biggest things was that hunter pets now get their own talent trees. Anyway, go check out the patch notes and the talent calculator at mmo-champion if you want to know about your particular class.

Judging by that video, Mom and her basement are a lock for the foreseeable future. Might want to cut back on the Dew and Red Bull.

Seriously tho', they really did have servers fubarred last night. Up and down and up and down, hehe.

We hit Black Temple last night with our guild coalition and... wow, just wow. Najentus, Supremus, and Shade of Akama went down like prom queens in an hour and a half, and even that would have been shorter save for some time setting up a couple of the pulls between Supremus and Shade that ended up being cake post-patch anyway. I think there were... five deaths on the night, most due to standing-in-the-shit due to lag, and our MT's threat generation was truly obscene.

I'm a frost mage, and went mana-battery spec (improved elemental) but people weren't hurting for mana at any point tonight anyway - it should be a help for RoS though as at least we'll be able to keep the shrinking mana bars filled up :). I'd left Shatter out of my spec at 70 because I went with a raid spec, and then was promptly shocked to see Blizzard critting on frozen targets (for 1100), mmmmm :)

We all feel so overpowered it's sick atm, although I imagine, or ar least hope, we'll get our comeuppance once the expansion comes out..

Regards,
Nydia

Apparently the latency issues, among others, are causing havoc since the patch and tonight some realms are completely unavailable to the extent of not even showing up on the lists of locked or offline realms.

Just how many former EQ folks went to work for them, anyhow?

Lag was horrible on my realm tonight. pretty sure it's something to do with the Achievements. they add alot of traffic to the servers. I'm having a blast with them though. almost half way thru "to all the squirrels i've loved".

Agreed, Lag > all atm - we had to delay our raid start time an hour and a half last night as 3 second latency doesn't exactly make rooting constructs cake...

As far as the rest of the week went, we one-shotted Reliquary of Souls and Mother that very next night (and that our first time on Mother) - and took out the Illidari Council on our second night of attempts last week. I have to think that Illidan isn't going to be long for this world and while it's nice to get through the content prior to the expansion's release, we can't help feeling dirty doing so (which was, in fact, what Bessy and I said in unison right after RoS dropped, having gone from wiping in P2/3 the week before the expansion to not even breaking a sweat)...

Nydia

Retribution paladins are pretty ridiculous at the moment, from a pvp perspective. As a lock, I'm not the sturdiest in terms of armor, but sheesh. I get hammer stunned, I trinket, hit death coil, then he bubbles out of it, and kills me in a matter of seconds before I can get away. Its crazy.

Oh well. Contrary to all the people raising a stink on the warlock boards about our so-called nerfed dps (I definitely can see us having a lower dps increase vs. other increases, but not an out-and-out nerf) at the moment. I've found a pretty decent spec to run with in most raid/group situations that has good solo thrown into the mix, which is fine by me. I'm not riding in the top 2 of the damage charts anymore like I was when I was rolling 0/21/40, but thus far I've been holding my own around position 4 or 5.

Next time you see a Paladin, curse of exhaustion kite him from 35 yards. He'll never catch up. It takes 20 seconds or so to wear them down this way, but it works.

P.S.: Fires of Zehn is recruiting! Feeder guild for FoH imo!

Zehn, your 3v3 rating is poopie.

never really thought of that Zehn. I usually roll demonology in pvp, but I might give a UA/SL build a try and see how that works out.

Ever play UA in season 4?

It'll be like that, except you'll die in 1/4th the time.

3.0.3 deployed to live servers today. Details can be found at http://www.mmo-champion.com/

Just a little over a week until WOTLK drops. Servers for the most part seem to have stabalized prior to 3.0.3 at least. Who knows what will be broken upon logging in today.

The patches and maintenance leading to Thursday's release of the expansion has gotten things so botched up the servers are still offline after a brief five minute or so time up this afternoon.

WoW has never reminded me so much of EQ as these last few Tuesdays have. Almost nostalgic, not being able to play after they do maintenance to fix things, because they break so much other shit in the process.

And still offline as of 9:55 cst.

And the only info they have given is that there is a problem with the in-game mail system.

This'll be the first time I don't buy an expansion for an mmo I'm playing on day 1 since EQ had that wierd download only one after luclin. No money for it, and I'm leveling a new main (paladin) thats only lvl 55 so no big rush.

EQ generally has digital download only on release date with Boxed versions hitting the shelves at some point later.
