This took me 11 tries before I finally figured it out. Tell me what you think of Petals Around the Rose (http://crux.baker.edu/cdavis09/roses.html). I'll give you a hint: If you try to look for an algorithm, you're thinking way too much. Look at the answer: Is it odd or even? Why is the game called "Petals Around the Rose"? You don't need much more than simple arithmatic.
The first one who figures out the answer and can explain his reasoning for it will get a special title! Final note, if you've done this before, be a good sport and don't post. Don't cheat using Google either. It makes the game less interesting.

It had taken Dr. Duke well over a year himself, and he would always explain that the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out.
So I'm dumb because I figured that crap out instantly? It would figure it'd take a college professor to come up with something like that. :)

Yeah, I must be one dumb mfer if the professor is right. I got it on the third roll. The name gives it away.

It doesn't make sense to say someone is smart or dumb because of how long it took to figure that out. It just shows a difference in how you think.

Haha, apparently a lot of other people were annoyed by that comment too: http://www.po-mo.us/petals/comments2005.htm

2rd try.
Though I had the advantage that I already met a similar but more complex game named "eskimos, iceholes and polar bears" while hanging out with some Mensa folks.
