I'm surprised I don't see more old schoolers taking advantage of this. :p

SOE has reactivated all old accounts till the 25th of July for all EQ and EQII players. They're also throwing in all expansions and some twink gear to get you started. There's even NPC's in PoK to show you what's going on.
Hehe, found my old shammy on my other account and am currently trucking towards 60 on both of them. The hot exp zones make it so easy to level it's sick.
The community has been REALLY friendly, and it's actually been fun to log in.

Because I had not uninstalled EQ from my pute, I figured I would check this out. I got the message that I had no subscription. But it still had my user name and password, since I mistyped the PW first try and was told it was wrong. So much for reactivating accounts.
Oh well.

Nope, us loyal paying customers didn't get any free game time, any free expansions (if we hadn't purchased them already), or the /claim for the loot.

My account was canceled just a few months back, this year.

Oh hey, good point there. That's kinda dumb.

Um, y'all do know this is a Sony run game? That's par for the course with them, and a big reason why I swore off their games. I don't like the way they treat paying customers.

/shrug free or not I still play and pay for 4 accounts atm. Only vet awards worth anything are the debt wands and xp potions but when you're 80 on multiple toons those aren't helpful except for alts :p
Personally I think it's a good advertising push. I finally joined a raiding guild so things are even funner :p

The 6th year veteran AA is extremely useful for healers like me. :)
Actually, the one I get the most use out of is the 9th year AA. Once a day I can fully absorb 10 hits, followed by 75% of the next 10, 50% of the next 10, and 25% of the next 10. It has saved me many, many times; sometimes it allows me to "tank" a raid mob long enough for a real tank to get it back under control, rather than mowing down caster after caster.
Besides, we (raiders at least) got a few new limited-time raids with the promise of some very nice augments as rewards for all participants.
I think the promotion overall has been very well done. One of my favorite things in EQ is seeing someone return after years of absence, and while that had already been happening on a regular basis in my guild, it's great to see so many returning players elsewhere.
I realize not all of the returning players will stay beyond the free promotional period, but I'm sure at least some of them will, and that will help keep the game healthy for longer.

Got Shorty up to about 500 AAs now and got my mage up to 55 with 12 AAs (from 27) within a few days. Exp in hot zones is extremely quick compared to what I was used to. I might stick around for a bit if I get the mage up to 70, split him off to another account and dual box them to 80 for the hell of it.

Hehe, Rahnor and Fileldar are amazing working together. It's so easy to two box now it's sick. I managed to get Rahnor and Fileldar to 55 in the same time it took me to level Binuven to 20 before. Hot exp zones are just crazy sick (and awesome, can't forget awesome!).
Junk loot cash has seriously improved too.

Hehe, getting the itch to play Vanguard again. Dammit, I wish they'd just mush the two games together! They now have racial mounts for all 19 player races. My kurshasa (cat dude) necromancer can get a scorpian as a mount. Cool beans!

Yikes, only at 21.4k myself atm. Tho that'll move up nicely once we get our 4 rewards from the legacy raids.
I really wish the type 14 Katta augs could be removed. At 1k Orum each it's a huge friggn expenditure to keep those slots filled. ;(

Good God! did they ever upgrade complete heal? or do clerics just press the macro once every 3 minutes now?

Splash heals--that is, moderately large heals with moderately short cast times--are now the bread and butter of the cleric class (and to some extent druids and shamans too). They have grown significantly to go along with the increases in maximum hp. Mana costs have not increased at the same rate as mana pool sizes, so healers have been able to last longer and longer on splash heals alone.
Despite the increases in maximum hp, tanks die more quickly than ever on raids. Some raid mobs can (rarely) hit for 40k or more in a single unlucky round. Divine Intervention helps a lot.
There is a sort of upgrade to Complete Heal called Promised Renewal (along with its upgrade, Promised Restoration). Basically it is a spell with a very short cast time that puts a buff on the target. The buff lasts for 18 seconds; when the buff wears off, that person is healed for a large amount.
Benefits:
The cleric is free to cast other spells while waiting for the Promised Renewal heal to fire.
The heal aggro is credited to the target (typically a tank, which makes this a good thing).
With an extremely short cast time, it is well suited for throwing a heal to someone that is kiting, which is part of some modern encounters.
Drawbacks:
It can't be used in a chain. (But then cheal chains never made for good gameplay, so it's good that they are being phased out.)
Even when not in a chain, it is easy for one cleric to accidentally overwrite another cleric's spell.
I still use Complete Heal on occasion when I need to stretch my cleric's mana due to the length of a fight. It is, after all, a highly efficient heal. And we do sometimes use small 3-cleric chains to provide a baseline level of healing on a long fight, to be supplemented by splashes.

As for downloading the old expansions, the patcher should do that automatically. You may have to select which expansions it should patch.

Necros still own in the game as well. I getting back into the swing of things again. Went from 69 to almost 79. Will hit 80 fairly soon and start pounding out AA's again. Its funny how easy it is to get AA's at the moment. Good thing I put on over 700AA's...5 years ago already...those were hard earned. I think I could put 100 on a week now if I just concentrated on AA's. Dont really need to many to get back into raiding, from the looks of most upper raid guilds I have most the required ones anyways.

I'll try logging in Saturday morning maybe to see if I remember how to play or where the hell I even logged.
