Mmm, they have their moments, but as above, most of it is so commercialized... I still say the best stuff is being done by the underground bands, local at every scene. Shoot, punk went from a rebellious and largely political feel to the more overdone generic love-and-life themes like every other band and genre out there. But the underground basement shows, full of sweaty fans and bad lighting, and songs that don't have to sell well....ah, that I still dig.

Punk is decent but Ska is the Devil's music.
All those trumpets make baby Jesus cry!

Misfits were great when Danzig was with them. The only other band you mentioned that I listen to at all is the Murphys, who are fucking awesome.
Didn't know ska was really around anymore, heh. It used to be big around here until the local club was turned into a teen dance... place.

You have to accept the trumpets in your heart Zag! Just tell yourself that they don't suck, and eventually, they will stop sucking so much ass!
I personally like most ska, since I love dancing and ska just happens to be good dancin music! My favorite bands are The Planet Smashers and The Specials...
It's sad that Less Than Jake and Reel Big Fish are such crappy bands now :(

Misfits are still awesome, been around 25-28 years, and still going strong..sort of. Personally, AFI, Glassjaw etc etc are really stupid. That mall-punk stuff too, like Good Charlotte, Blink 182, AFI, and whatever are a waste of time listening to. I like the underground-punk stuff, such as:
Cro-Mags
The Exploited
Toxic Narcotic
Download some songs :D
And, the Misfits still rule.

Ska creep me out, its like you're listening to punk and then all of a sudden a brass band jumps out from nowhere and starts assaulting you with horrible sounds! ;)
As for AFI being "mall-punk", all I can say to that is "LIEZ!!"
Listen to The Art of Drowning and Sing The Sorrow, two completely classic albums.

Shut Your Mouth and Open Your Eyes > That. Download 'Triple Zero' or 'Today's Lesson' if you don't believe me.

Even as someone who likes both those genres separately and and the occaisional hybrid of the 2 that gets it right, that made me laugh my ass off.

Heh, it is wierd from seeing AFI at Slims in San Francisco ( a small rock club) to the Shoreline (a large concert venue) in Mtn View. Anyways, i honestly like "shut your mouth and open your eyes" a lot more then the newer stuff.
But ya.. Dropkick Murpheys, Thursday, The Distillers, Rancid, Tiger Army, The Nerve Agents, Operation Ivy.. good shitz
Long live punk rock!
