Some time back I had made a comparison of the likeness of Putin to Lord Voldemort, of the Harry Potter series. Well, during a conversation at work, this came up and the discussion moved to other parallels.

Putin, like LV, bided his time and slowly built up his base of support among the young and disenchanted and gave them all the right slogans to develop a sense of pride and the belief they were the real power. He used his countries energy resources to establish ties to the West that made them dependent and to further fortify his country and it's military, much like LV using his Death Eaters to infiltrate the Ministry of magic and sharing his power with the DE's just enough to make them beleive they could do anything in his name.

And, as LV used Draco Malfoy to attack Dumbledore so did Putin use the newly elected President to smack Georgia and demonstrate how Russia would stand by their allies (the two break-away republics). There seems to be little doubt who was actually pulling the strings during that situation, and who was being looked at as the strong man in the leadership; however, it was the President who was the face of the nation. Just as Malfoy's act of Dumbledore's murder was his, it was the presence of LV and the threat of his displeasure that was the driving force.

Okay, I know, it is a stretch......but an interesting way to while away some time in conversation, hehehe. And it had nothing to do with the elections or debates or our candidates.

...neener neener neener...

Well this is a fun comparison and looks feasible to me.

Shoot, I didn't know that Dumbledore was killed by Malfoy! Hadn't read that far yet. Oh well not a biggie.

He actually wasn't, but Malfoy was set that task by the Dark Lord (no, not Cheney, Lord Voldemort).

And my apologies for divulging story lines to those that had not gotten there yet.

Hold on - are you saying Dumbledore is Georgian??

I always thought he was kind of Irish.

Another possible comparison:

Russia with the Romulan Empire (more or less) in the Star Trek universe?
