My sis lives in Franklin. I first heard about it from her and she sent me this link http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/last_event_states/states_north_carolina.html (http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/last_event_states/states_north_carolina.html)

CNN has something on their site too

When I was in High School, we had a bad one. It caused a landslide of one of the mountains which took out part of Highway 74. The road was closed for a while. This one wasn't so bad.

EDIT: fixed the freaky fonts.

*lives near the San Andreas fault in CA*

The terrible thing about earthquakes in a place where they aren't all that common is, because the buildings aren't fortified to withstand them, you end up with more collapses and inevitably more injuries / deaths.

This was a pretty small quake. Hopefully its not a sign of things to come.

I remember I heard a statistic once after El Nino... they said with all the stuff that washed down the rivers and settled on the shelf in the Monterey Bay Canyon (CA), in the event of "The Big One" that shelf could collapse and create a tidal wave with enough water to cover the entire state in two feet of water. No, it wouldn't do that, but thats the volume of water that could flow over the Monterey Bay region. I live about 1/2 mile from the ocean in Pacific Grove (Monterey Bay). I don't like earthquakes much.

Ah, western NC, no wonder I hadn't heard anything about it. A couple days ago my TV settled on a program that detailed major US quakes over the last couple centuries, focusing particularly on major (8.0+) quakes that hit TN and surrounding areas in the 1800s.

We're all going to die. :(

The Panthers need to move out of the area as it is a high danger zone and an injury could hurt Steve Smith.... :)
