Has anyone picked it up this week?

I haven't played a 'shooter' since Quake 1. I have never played any of the Grand Theft Auto games or anything from Rockstar Games for that matter. All that said, this game 'looks' amazing to me, so I am intrigued.

If anyone has played it this week, do you think a person that doesn't play shooters/grand theft auto games could possibly enjoy it? Does it play enough like a movie that my wife won't be bored to tears if she watches me play it?

I just hate to blow $60 on a game that's outside of my general gaming comfort zone unless it's simply something I shouldn't miss and would enjoy it. I mostly play some MMOs on occasion (playing LOTRO atm because it's free, and I am actually enjoying it. Though the questing is getting repetitive, and I'm only level 23). Recently, other games I have played have been Gran Turismo 5 and Tiger Woods PGA 12. I don't normally like action adventure games, but I LOVED all 3 God of War games. I also like Final Fantasy style games and hack & slash games of the Diablo ilk.

I watched my nephew play this last night and I'll be honest it looks cool. It's not like a typical FPS and it doesn't remind me of GTA. It's 3 discs and it's increadibly detailed. Basically you're a detective and you have to really investigate your area and interview people. You have to watch their faces and listen to them and determine if they are lying or telling the truth.

Anymore I don't like playing games and instead like watching people play them. I'm not sure what's wrong with me in that regard but I recognize it....anyway I enjoy him playing this.

There is shooting and you do chase criminals but it reminds me of Dick Tracey b/c of the setting. I noly watched him for about 30min b/c it was close to bed time but I definitely want to see more. It also caught Leah's attention b/c she likes crime stuff. All 3 of us were trying to solve the crime lol.

One thing that's meh about the game....it's not really replayable. I mean once you solve all the cases you're done. There will supposedly be DLC like RDR and other games like this has so I guess that will be nice but if you blow thru the game quickly there won't be anything left for you to do.

And, if you're more of a hands on shoot'em kind of player you won't like this. You get to do some of that but this is mostly detective work. Make the game a little harder by turning off some of the things that alert you to clues in crime scenes. There's dings and buzzing and it can all be turned off. Otherwise it's too easy IMO.

If you lack Portal 2, it should vacuum out the cash from your wallet. There is no other purchase possible until you have played Portal 2.

If you have played portal 2, THEN you might be allowed to spend cash on LA Noire.
