Hey guys, Me and my friend decided to come back and play EQ1, and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the most populated server is, so that we dont get burnt out from having miles of empty land to level on.

I also wanted to know if you guys had any input on a Monk/Bard combo... Friend wants to play a Bard, and I was thinking of playing a Melee, and Monk kinda stood out since i played one before and loved it.

Basically what has changed? and where should i play?

If you are looking to eventually raid higher end and play on eastern standard time, I would suggest Maelin. If you are looking to play with people you knew before, than I'd suggest Tribunal. Most of the servers have similar populations as a whole, just many of them reside in differant aspects of the game.

Looking for a West coast server and we plan to eventually raid.

Monks are great for DPS but come up a little short as main tank. It might work at lower levels, but once you get into higher level mobs, it will take less mana to rez you than to heal you.

As has been mentioned, the population from server to server is pretty even...

The roleplay servers are fun to play as well. Firiona Vie has a number of large guilds that are hard core raid guilds... as well as some casual raiding guilds. There seems to be fairly even spread of time zones on FV.

Though according to everything on the SOE boards, FV is a dying server.

Monks are fun but I would also consider a SK or a Pally. I think that would make a great combo with a bard.

Or alternatively make a kiter to kite w/ the bard, like a druid - since you can't really do much duoing anymore at the higher ends.

I think we are gonna do a Monk/Bard combo, with me boxing a Shaman, so he can still twist songs. Looks like that will let us trio pretty high up :)

We want to go to all the old nostalgic places and really don't care about the new zones that much... We will get to them when we get to them :)

I can understand the Monk/Bard/Shaman combo with the exception of the Monk :)

I remember duoing with a monk in Velk's Lab as the last time I was able to kill anything w/o a tank / healer that didn't involve kiting. But thats probably a ways off for you.

Well depending on gear, I was melee soloing in fire at 70 when it still yielded 12% of an aa per kill. The only issue you might have is a lack of a person that can get snap agro off the shaman as you progress further. If you are going to add a shaman to the mix, I'd suggest a paladin/sk over the monk. You won't need the monk to pull with a bard, and it will be very nice to have a taunter to hold agro off the shaman. If fd is why you want the monk, you can always achieve that with the SK. If you just want the dps, than play a berserker, which can hold better agro than a monk and until you get til the higher end won't take all that much more damage than a monk and will deal out TONS more dps.

I have to agree with Taleren. SK/Shaman/Bard is a sick trio. I remember when I first started playing EQ I duo'ed with a Shaman and SK/Shaman combo was insane. Adding a bard to the mix is just a major bonus.
