And now, for an actual eq related nag.
It's happened now. Someone called 5s on the xxx and 4 of us rolled 5 555, but two rolled 0 555...and unfortunately, the 0 555 roll was highest.
So what the hell do you do in that situation? Give the thing to the 0 555 roller? Make em roll again, do the whole thing again, make the winner of the 0 555 and the 5 555 roll off again?
Bah.
Another case: aug and a rune drop. leader calls for rolls on the loot. this time it's a /random 100 roll, winner loots the aug AND the rune.
So, moral of this story is, don't make assumptions when yer leading a group, be extraordinarily specific when dealing with loot distribution....otherwise someone WILL misunderstand, usually in a manner that benifits them.

I think you've gotta give it to the 0 555 guy if he wins that roll. True, who really knows how the RNG seeds and if the same guy might have rolled lower at the same instant using 1 555, but on the surface he won with worse odds than the 5 555 people.

Thats actually kinda funny to think about. It happens quite frequently in WoW pickup groups because half the people are deaf, dumb, and blind I imagine ... and we just reroll. But I suppose mathmatically the odds are against the winner in that case, but they also fail at following directions and don't deserve loot. I'd just ninja loot it and gate to teach em all a lesson.

Isn't the game soooooo much more fun now that you can get to level 68 with 400 AAs in about 3 hours?

If you aren't sure, ask. Assumptions work both ways. (and you can always wait roll caller to roll first ;)) I remember rerolling for mistakes like this.
On a side note, and an old one :

Rolling and looting has always been a touchy subjuect, no matter what the game. I have seen folks on both ends of the spectrum... some would say if the called roll was /ran 5 555 and you rolled /ran 0 555 ... then you reroll.. no matter what you got. And then there are others who would let it slide.
I think the issue is up to the group/raid leader to make it very specific so that folks understand what the roll is.
I would like to see Sony revisit the entire looting process and make it a little more "automated" or "fair".
For example, on raids you would have a main looter who loots EVERYTHING, no matter if it was NO TRADE or not. (But..but..but.. Hold on Sparky, I'll address that in a moment.)
The raid leader would designate a main looter to loot everything. Items looted would NOT go into that persons inventory. The raid loot would go into a holding area (after all, it's only electronic bits, bytes and synchronous whatsits).
After the raid, or at some other time deemed feasible, the raid leader / main looter could click on an item and put it up to be rolled on. The person who won the roll would have the item automatically placed in their inventory.
This could all be done within a window much like the DoN, LDoN etc. pop-up windows.
Granted this is a cursory look at how the system would work, but you get the idea. It would help sort out loot and make sure someone doesn't ninja loot an_uber_leet_item01 while everyone argues about who rolled what.

That is a great idea Gandaar, that with a little fine tuning would solve many headaches as well as help speed up raids.
