Ok, here's one for 'ya. SENDITOVER1 has been on tilt for a little while. His pre-flop raises are...suspect.

Perhaps the re-raise was a bit much, but, well, he is a crazy man. He's raised pre-flop for the last hour on anything.

Man, that's like having a horseshoe up the ass on that river. Grats for that nonetheless! Gambling, after all, is more about luck than anything else. :D

Man, that's like having a horseshoe up the ass on that river. Grats for that nonetheless! Gambling, after all, is more about luck than anything else. :DWhat are you talking about with the whole luck thing? Gambling is about maximizing your expectations. Oh and nice hand Pali.

From a math standpoint, I'm clearly beaten on the flop, but I'm only a 75% underdog to win the hand. I've got AAAKQ for the best possible non-full house, and he's got AAQQQ for a pretty damned spiffy full house. Assuming however that he doesn't make his 40-to-1 quads, I've got about a 25% chance to make a better hand than he has, with my 10 outs (the three kings, threes, tens, and the one ace). And, of course, if he makes his 40-to-1 quads, I've got the same 40-to-1 draw to beat him.

Also, do remember that with AAQQ on the board, there's exactly two possible hands that beat AKxx, and that's AQxx and QQxx. AKxx has to feel pretty good about his hand, especially heads up against a pre-flop maverick. I'd bet and re-bet my AKxx against the AAQQ board in a similar situation nearly every time.

...but, yeah, once he made his quads, I was about 2% to make.

I've been tempted to play. I have a few friends that get together and have small hold'em tourneys but I'm sort of a miser.

I have been watching the growing poker phenom on the tube and have picked up the strategy on a no limit game but after talking with the dealers at the casino I work for, it's a completely different game when compaired to limit style.

Listening to the dealers talk is like reading Palimax's posts on the subject...my eyes eyes end up crossing a little.

If I wanted to maximize my poker fun per dollar ratio, I'd invest in as many $5 online and $10-20 in-person tournaments I could. Lots of bang for the buck.

Recently I've been spending a lot of time looking at poker-bots. Mostly out of curiousity. Most bots lose to good players, but good bots make money long-term against a steady stream of bad players. They especially make money when playing together in "gangs" sharing card information. It's not a huge advantage, but it is a huge advantage over long periods of time. Ask a Blackjack professional what it means to get a %0.5 edge over the house.

Bots aren't also aren't any better than their programmers. You can give it a rule like "always re-raise two pair on the turn unless there are three to a flush or three to a straight," and you can further get complex by saying "half the time, follow rule (a), 25% of the time, follow rule (b), and 25% of the time, follow rule (c)." ...but the bot is still only as good as its programming.

WinHoldEm (just google it) is one of these. I think I'm going to make a $100-200 investment in an experiment with the standalone autoplay version. [I already have a license, from...a friend.] I don't see it, for purposes of the experiment, as different from running any of the "monitor my play and make suggestions" programs and always taking it's advice - except that I'm positive I'm breaking the ToS at whereever I'm going to try it.

When I get that far, I'll post logs.

So, even when it's not Blackjack, bots have tells too :)
